Not as cuddly as guinea pigs, but rats are nice. My daughter and son-in-law used to have a pet white rat. Sweetest little thing. When I would come to visit, she would sit on my shoulder and I'd feed her Cheerios.
How about the Obamas adopting a "White House rat"?

The rats that are prevalent in DC are brown rats, also known as sewer rats, common rats, Norway rats, and commensal rodents.
I saw that too.
What concerns me is that the bill would provide protection for exotic starlings and sparrows.
Gee I'd trap them all and then just drop them off at City Hall since they want to protect those rats.
Let them deal with it.
