Why are we refining Canada's crude? Build refineries up there, we keep hearing we need more anyhow.
Why ship China's oil over our land? Let them ship it west.
Why are pipelines bad? Google Wellington Ohio pipeline leak. Just happened last Thursday, they still haven't got a look at the pipe itself, still dealing with the environmental damage.

The administration said that they're not going to approve the pipe through the Sand Hills, but they'll look at a plan to move it to a safer location when that plan is completed.
I wouldn't jump too far on this one. I'm a native Nebraskan and a R. The R's in Nebraska are the ones who led the fight to move the pipe out of the Sand Hills because of the danger to our drinking and irrigation water supply--there is no pipe currently running through that area, and it never should have been proposed to begin with. When the R's in Congress pushed to get Obama to make a decision on the pipe within two months it was pure politics, and it may backfire on them. Nebraska (solid red state) has to approve the plan as well, and it's not going to happen until months from now when they have the environmental impact statement completed for moving the pipe. Obama can't approve the old plan through the Sand Hills, because the state of Nebraska won't. It makes the Congressional R's who pushed for the vote look really stupid, because other Rs are the ones demanding the delay. Talk about dumb and dumber--we need to ship some R's from out here to Washington to inject a little bit of common sense. I have never been as frustrated with the party as I am right now.
Stop trying to insert balance and context into what is obviously a black-and-white issue, willya? Sheeesh
Mitt should be happy though- this ought to knock his tax doging off page one for a few hours
The Canadians should refine the crude and ship us the fuels. IIRC there are already pipelines down the Mississippi River that could carry the product. Besides a ready supply of gasoline and diesel fuel would be an economic boon to the northern tier of Midwestern States. We do not need to risk polluting a huge water supply just to feed the petroleum greed heads in Huston even if the shrub is a Texan.
I accept the reasoning behind the delay in this project. Enough questions have been raised that the federal government should take the time to carefully consider the pros and cons, and also to listen to the concerns raised by the people of Nebraska. To rubber stamp it at this time wouild be to cave-in for political reasons. It would be popular or expedient with some to just approve it now at the start of the political season. However, the President has taken the high-road. The responsible, leadership approach. I support his decision what I know of the reasoning behind it.
