Obama Reportedly Calls For Iran Talks In Secret Letter

Quote:
U.S. President Barack Obama has called for direct talks with Iran in a secret letter to the Islamic Republic's supreme leader that also warned Tehran against closing the strategic Strait of Hormuz, a conservative Iranian lawmaker was quoted as saying Wednesday.

...
"In the letter, Obama called for direct talks with Iran," the semiofficial Fars news agency quoted Motahari as saying Wednesday. "The letter also said that closing the Strait of Hormuz is (Washington's) red line."

...
He said the U.S. remained committed to engaging with Tehran and finding a diplomatic solution to its larger issues with Iran's nuclear program.
This is not good. I know some will say that Obama is going about this by peaceful means and attempting to talk it out. But Iran's leaders are liars. They can not be trusted. They only understand coercion by force - not talk.

If nothing else, this elevates Iran and diminishes our stature. You need group pressure to apply to Iran.

I just read an article about the "Joint Special Operations Task Force - Gulf Cooperation Council", a special task force aimed at preparing a war in the Gulf region, obviously against Iran. Coincidentally () that task force started its work in mid-2009, the same time when the protests against the Iranian government escalated. Maybe the Iranians were right after all when they said the protests were orchestrated by foreigners...

After all the mess the US has been creating in the Middle East for decades now, it's time to leave people there alone. The US has no moral integrity anymore, a rogue state can't bring peace to other rogue states...

Just how 'secret' is the letter if I'm reading about it on CD?

Some people have lost all ability to comprehend the meaning of words, it seems.

Excellent! President Obama is following the advice of another great President.
"Talk softly and carry a big stick"
Another reason to vote Obama in 2012

It sounds like a not so secret letter after all. Must be the definition of "secret" on right wing media. Having said that, the last time American President went for group pressure, we found ourselves engaged in an unnecessary war. Good to see a President who actually values conversation over bullying, regardless of how nutty the other side is.

Which will accomplish, what exactly?

How many times has he already reached out to iran, as have the Europeans, and achieved nothing - all while iran continues to complete its nuclear weapons?

At what point do the rational, if such a thing exists on the far left/base of obama fanatics, realize that there is no point in diplomacy with psychotic murderers like the iranian leadership, and that a military solution is the only viable one? Should we wait until after they've conducted multiple detonation tests before the far left finally says, "ok, maybe we should try something different."

Clearly, "diplomacy" worked REAL WELL with the north koreans...

And what do you want to accomplish? War? Insanity? Bullying? Idiocy?

If by conversation you mean car bombings and funding Iranian insurgents?

You haven't been following the Iranian cold war the last 5-6 years.
