It's sad how far people will go to justify their own insecurities and fears. But when those fears are about something as trivial as sexual orientation, it becomes a lot less sad. A LOT less. Then it becomes creepy, and quite frankly, f'd up. We're talking about people who honestly act as if an entire group of individuals essentially have cooties, so therefore, we have to keep their cooties away from us. It's unbelievably insane, and childish. I honestly don't know what to say, because if in 2012, you're still this paranoid when it comes to anything gay related, then you really need a reality check. Desperately.

Marriage is secular?

Since when?

I suggest doing away with it completely. I think it should be replaced with a contract, such as a pre-nup agreement, setting the rights and duties of both parties, the disposal of any individual and or shared property and the care of any childern involved with the people involved.

The man receives no obligations when he gets married and conceives children?

I think someone forgot to inform all those divorce courts that men have no obligations in a marriage.

Since we turned it into a social contract.

I say yes to same-sex marriage. Hetero couples have been supporting the divorce lawyers long enough. It's time gays paid their fair share.

Do you get a marriage license from a church, or a government agency?

My marriage is secular.

I was married in a courthouse. No deity was referenced in any way when I was married. There were no religious trappings of any sort when I was married, no reference in any way to any religion. My marriage certificate as well is as secular as my driver's license. That was the legal ceremony. The joyous ceremony that followed, away from the courthouse, was special and fun. But still no more religious.

My marriage is as secular as the glass of wine I had last night with dinner -- the fact that some other people do a certain thing (getting married, drinking wine, etc.) and make a big religious production out of it doesn't mean that it is necessarily religious when anyone does it.

One would think this so glaringly obvious that it wouldn't have to be explained to you, but I guess not ...
