Nah...don't distance the Tea Party from the Republicans now. Too late.
They're part of the mainstream Republican party...always were, always will be. These people didn't just pop up out of some hole or hatch from an egg. They've always been Republicans.
Yep, racists are insidiuous in their drive to remove slavery references or other materials that portray how things were once upon a time in this country.
There is no need for word "slavery" if a section of the populace can be defined only 3/5 of a person. I'm sure the real intentions of real Americans are in freedoms of "real" people.
So the OP listed 2 left leaning opinions. The Huffpost article says Texas elevated Davis to be on par with Lincoln. That is not true. If history is to be learned objectively then both sides must be taught.
Davis' Inaugural Address is now in the history books. That's it. It's an exaggeration to say that Texas elevated Davis and put slavery in a positive light. Kids need to be taught context when taught history and it should be taught in an objective manner exploring all sides.
I think the OP articles are stretching the wants of a few extreme activists into the belief of all Tea Party supporters and this is just not true.
I always thought the Huffingtonpost was pretty reliable, didn't think they would make stories up. I have to do some research before I believe this story was fabricated.

Taken verbatim from Cornerstone Speech:
"Our new government is founded upon exactly the opposite idea; its foundations are laid, its corner- stone rests, upon the great truth that the negro is not equal to the white man; that slavery subordination to the superior race is his natural and normal condition."
What is the context implied here? And here is an excerpt from Texas' declaration to join the Civil War:
"Texas abandoned her separate national existence and consented to become one of the Confederated Union to promote her welfare, insure domestic tranquility and secure more substantially the blessings of peace and liberty to her people. She was received into the confederacy with her own constitution, under the guarantee of the federal constitution and the compact of annexation, that she should enjoy these blessings. She was received as a commonwealth holding, maintaining and protecting the institution known as negro slavery-- the servitude of the African to the white race within her limits-- a relation that had existed from the first settlement of her wilderness by the white race, and which her people intended should exist in all future time."
Please provide a sample of an objective dissection.
Of course they do. It's hard to argue how much foresight and insight the founding fathers had, how perfect the Constitution was, how we don't need anything other than what came from their minds and their hands to run this country... when you can point out their blatant hypocrisy and limited vision.
