A large percentage of them were (on the most religious end of the interpretation) deists. Some of them are sometimes viewed as less religious that that. However, it is entirely irrelevant since what they formed was a secular government.

It does not matter at all how many churches there are in America, since it has absolutely no impact on the operation of the government.

We have a lot of gas stations, unhealthy fast food restaurants and Wal-Marts too. Gas stations have just about the same impact on the government that churches do.
