I wish Canada's Federal and Provincal Govronment's would fork out the Cash to Refine up here in Canada and get all the extra value added $$$ Refined Oil products bring and all the extra added jobs it would create by doing it up here.. Since they (Good paying Blue Coller Oil Refining jobs for the middleclass workers) would be not just be good for all of Canada but Good for all Canadian Citizens.
I mean if you Guys/Gals South of the 49th don't want the extra jobs or extra work... Well we Canadians will gladly take the extra work/jobs up here.... And alteast try to keep the work here in North America instead of sending them overseas to China or India...
That does not say we won't also sell/Ship the value added Refined oil too China and India which we should to make our markets more diverse and less US dependant on how your Economy does.
Lets admit the facts here you guys are not looking as good as you used to Economic wise and well being economically 100% tied to you just does not make much sense and if we want to save our own butss we need to look outside North American makrets to make sure our economy suruvives..
If you guys (well your elected Govronment leaders) don't right the ship ASAP and decide to run your economy into the ground ( which we really hope you do not do as we are a country who is an not only a very close ally but a very close friend to the U.S.) and we do not want to see you end up like Greece.
I'm not a petrol chemical engineer, or scientist, but there may be something with the cold climate that limits refining???
I know there are several fracking articles in a few threads. Good explanation and info. maps, charts, chemicals, company lists etc. Pretty interesting reads if you've got the time. Somewhere you will find your answers. What I gather is, it has more to do w/ the depth of the oil deposits, and if I remember correctly, our oil is richer, "sweet" and that in part is what has so many folks excited. If I understand what I've read, it has the properties for oil, and can be separated and refined to diesel/gas? Anyway, read some of the articles I posted in various threads, and come explain it better than I.
We need the pipeline to reinforce the idea that the US is becoming less dependent on foreign oil... uhh what? This oil is coming from Canada, a "socialist" country with NATIONAL HEALTHCARE FOR EVERYBODY!??

There ya go, One that doesn't muddy the waters with all of that "but it's oil for export" nonsense but rather goes right to the heart of the matter!
This one humourously attempts to point out the fallacy of the thinking as pertains to the whole "eminent domain" scandal, either real or imagined.
Comical in the extreme you'd rather buy the stuff from Iran and others in the middle east who have held your citizens hostage and who, along with Libya has funded actual attacks against your country resulting in how many deaths again?
Canada, the great "socialist" boogyman to the north of you.

Why not just pay people to dig ditches or something? Maybe we could build a diversion channel so that the Souris doesn't flood Estevan again.

Nope, it's just bad business. Refineries are expensive. The tar sands crack spread is too small to pay for big new refinery projects.
Simple answer:
Canada wants the pipeline to a port city to export the oil.
Canada aint the one exporting it you dummies. Your oil companies are!
Simple answer: Texas refiners have optioned the crude and the cheapest way to transport it to those refiners is through a pipeline. The alternative is transporting it by rail line and making Buffet even richer. Either way the oil gets to those Texas refineries.
Those companies that have contracted the upgraders to refine the crap then sell it on the commodities exchange to whomever buys it.
I thought we were talking about a pipeline to Texas?
I do work in the pipeline industry, I worked for the pipeline that transports the crude oil from Trans Canada to the Koch Refinery in Rosemount MN many years ago. People don't even realize the line is there most of the time but enough oil flows down that line to feed the gasoline needs of the Twin Cities area and much more. That line was built in the 50's with that technology but still leaks are rare. Pipelines built today? Much better, much safer and will last hundreds of years with proper maintenance.
I'm in the public utility business now and I guarantee you that it's much more likely that the gas line that runs down your street will spring a leak than that cross country oil pipeline.
"Build Keystone XL and you build on a long and disastrous history of pipelines in America.
A new analysis of federal records reveals that in just the past year and four months, there have been 372 oil and gas pipeline leaks, spills and other incidents, leading to 20 deaths, 117 injuries and more than $256 million in damages.
The new data adds to a June 1, 2013 independent analysis of federal records revealing that since 1986, oil and gas pipeline incidents have resulted in 532 deaths, more than 2,400 injuries and more than $7.5 billion in damages."
Because the railroad is so environmentally and energy-conscious?
You didn't get the memo? Trains never derail an have spills..
