If obama had half the character of Bush, he may be a decent man.

As it stands, obama is a man child, a boy if you will.
No, this Texan will never see what you righties see in Dubya, the guy is an idiot. All one has to do is point to Iraq to Prove that point. He stayed out of the fray because his Daddy got him into a unit that had ZERO chance of ever getting anywhere near the fray, and he jumped the line to do that and then simply walked away (deserted). Yes, please tell us about his many "qualities", so far I see very little good in them.

That may be true but at least HE WENT! bush never left the country! If Kerry went over there and played with his toes......he still went! since he was in country multiple times there was no way that he could have avoided any kind of hazardous duty. You fell victim to the bush money machine since you like many others overlooked that fact

No but the damage that he did will last along time, especially with the returning veterans

It's a dead issue at this point. I never cared all that much about it anyway. It was fairly common for the well heeled to get slots in the Guard during Vietnam, so it's no surprise that Bush got over. It is what it is.

No sense in beating it to death.

I really hate to attack your intelligence but, if he did not finish his stateside Guard duty in Alabama what makes you think that he would volunteer to go to Vietnam? The reason he went into the guard in the first place was to AVOID GOING TO VIETNAM! Believe me if he really wanted to go he would have went!

bush was not a deserter or even awol he was a WEEKEND WARRIOR( reservist/no-go), he was not active duty, so he will NOT have a 214, the only thing he will have is a DISCHARGE ORDER, discharging him from the service

at NO TIME was ANY form of judicial/non-judicial punishment even THOUGHT of against him

why dont YOU produce a document showing that him as a status of awol...bet you cant

btw. I am RETIRED military, and DO transfers/discharges as an army civilian

Kerry joined the Navy to AVOID Vietnam. The "swiftboat" service was invented after he enlisted and he had no way of avoiding duty so he found a loophole to get out in the least time as possible which was to accumulate 4 purple hearts for cutting himself shaving.

I do believe that all Guard and Reserves do have DD Form 214's, it is their military record.
Nope no one would dare suggest bringing charges against the son of a man that is running the CIA, that would be insanity, and a sure fire way to end your military career.
He can produce no forms that allowed him to simply blow off the rest of his obligation, nor are there any records in the hands of the military that show any such permission and none of his CO's can even recall where he was. Yes, charges could have been brought, they simply weren't but that does not mean he was authorized to do what he did. Plain and simple.
Good for you, I am also a Vet, as were my father, uncles, and son, we all now how the system works. Your point is?

So commanders were approving awards for minor wounds?

How exactly was this Kerry's fault (if this was true about Kerry, and it isn't)?
