So do you believe the federal government should just go on giving these businesses whatever they want? With no accountability?
Did I say any of that?
I believe that government should have a very limited role in business. If that somehow translates into "giving them anything they want" in your mind... so be it.
If it follows the principles of supply and demand, the only way to bring down costs is to not allow certain kids to go. So there you go. Now you just need to choose which kids you don't want to attend university.
Either that, or we start producing a lot more professors.
I say we have a serious threat looming on the horizon. There are a glut of these faux universities that have been bought and converted into for profit operations, they get people through advertising and get them to sign massive debts backed by the government. These loans will be far more than the people can pay back and we are going to see massive failures in paybacks, and huge funds being demanded from the gov to back these bad loans.....

Or..those kids need to shop, and demand to get a fair value for their dollar. Let those colleges that can't compete, do broke.

And these "for profit" universities differ from other ones in what way???
I would say the same rules should apply...if these schools want the federal taxpayer to fund them, they should be willing to submit to limits on tuition.

People already do shop around, and I don't think those dynamics would necessarily apply to public universities.
College education is an interesting animal. People don't always shop for value when it comes to education, as in finding the more affordable school for their budget. A lot of people are concerned with reputation of the school/program.
So, unless we can prove that school rankings hold little value in determining future prospects, it's going to be a hard sell to tell kids they should pick Acme State or Acme Community over a top ranked public school like UVA, UMich, UNC-Chapel Hill, UC-Berkeley, etc.

Most of the "private" schools academic criterion are a joke. And I'm not talking about Harvard or Princeton or Brown.
