As I stated in another thread. Gun laws aren't there to prevent crazy people from doing crazy things. Gun laws are there so that police can stop crazy people from doing crazy things.

For instance, felons prohibition of guns. Most people think its a good idea for felons to not be allowed to own hand guns. But felons repeat crimes with hand guns? So what is the purpose?

The purpose is when a cop pulls a felon over, and finds a gun in the car, he can then arrest him before he commits the crime.

What the law that King put forward does is allow police to set a perimeter up around government officials. If someone crosses that perimeter with a gun, they can then stop them and arrest them. Otherwise, they can walk up, then shoot someone, then get arrested for murder.

Crazy people will do crazy things with or without a gun, if someone is going to a political rally with the intent on shooting someone and they are faced with a road block 1000' away which might land them in jail because they have a gun in the vehicle a truly crazy person will just drive through the roadblock killing a few cops in the process of trying to run down a political figure.

I've never understood why people expect crazy people to follow some new laws when they already ignore all the laws we already have. It's illegal to drive through a road block, you think they care about that law?

Thats true, crazy people will always kill people. Its my rational thoughts when it comes to terrorism.

But does that mean we shouldn't allow the FBI to track people on the terrorist watch list? Does that mean we shouldn't have CIA spys in foreign countries trying to track down these men and their financial backers?

Again, Gun laws don't prevent crime from happening. But they do prevent some crimes from happening.

There are good gun laws, there are bad gun laws. Debate each one on its merits alone, don't say that they are all bad, because one is.

As I said before, if Kings law was in place when Giffords was at her public meeting, they could have had a 100 yard perimeter set up, they could have checked people for guns before they walked up to her, etc.

It may not have stopped her shooting, and the murder of all of the innocent people there, but there is a good chance it would have.

How are they stomping on 2nd amendment rights?
They're limiting, not denying, your "rights" (how's that militia going guys?).

It goes back to the core belief that liberal idiots want to spread, that the government can and should do things for citizens that citizens are supposed to be capable and allowed to do for themselves. Intelligent people demand the right to defend themselves while ignorant people want to remove those rights and force people to call the police when someone kicks in their front door.
No, chielgirl didn't say that. No one has advocated the seizure of guns, as everyone knows that they are hunted with, collected and used for personal protection. Just who would remove legal weapons? Not any branch of the federal, state or local governments or law enforcement...not gonna happen. However, many rational people question the need for people to own certain types of guns and ammunition, which are usually the type used by criminals and not law-abiding citizens. I don't think that there's much danger that old hippies in Birkenstocks are going to show up and demand your rifles, shotguns and handguns. However, looking at the statistics, questioning whether the items that may be banned seems a wise idea; the death rate is far too high for a civilized country.

NRA Information - Gun Violence in America

Gun Violence in America

Firearms are the second leading cause of traumatic death related to a consumer product in the United States and are the second most frequent cause of death overall for Americans ages 15 to 24. Since 1960, more than a million Americans have died in firearm suicides, homicides, and unintentional injuries. In 2003 alone, 30,136 Americans died by gunfire: 16,907 in firearm suicides, 11,920 in firearm homicides, 730 in unintentional shootings, and 232 in firearm deaths of unknown intent, according to the National Center for Health Statistics. Nearly three times that number are treated in emergency rooms each year for nonfatal firearm injuries. [end quote]

According to this we rank #4 worldwide, behind only South Africa, Colombia and Thailand.[/SIZE]

No, firearms are NOT the second leading cause of traumatic death in America. The USE of firearms is.

Guns do not fire themselves. The fault lies not with the trigger, but with the trigger puller.

So I'm sure you'd be fine with "limiting" abortion and gay marriage rights.

Outlawing bullets would be like outlawing abortion equipment. After all, we're not denying your right to have an abortion, we're just "limiting" it.

Such dishonesty...
