News to me. Most businesses I'm familiar with in my locale do not do so.

The only businesses I have ever seen that do not give vacation time are some fast food places and maybe some other minimum wage type jobs. Even Walmart gives vacation time.

I suggest you try a different local, and I would bet you find many businesses that do give the paid time off.

In Vermont the businesses have the upper hand as jobs are so scarce here. They take full advantage of it too in most cases.

You have every right to start a buss and utilize those work hrs.

Thats because your development laws are so tuff , no one wants to invest there. Works well to keep VT beautiful. Also works well to keep it one of the highest per capita welfare states in the country.

Businesses nowadays don't negotiate except for with an extremely narrow portion of the American workforce. Very narrow. And i'm talking about very, very senior management types. Regular workers won't be negotiating anything.

I don't know why you guys continue to push this nonsense on C-D about "negotiating." It aint happening.

We need minimum vacation laws.

Believe me, it aint just Vermont...not even close. Again, unless you're in the very high levels of management, you're not gonna be negotiating anything. You take what they offer...period, point blank. I don't know what world these other guys are living in.

And if you would pay attention to the rest of the post instead of only focusing on one thing, you would have noticed I also said that if the company didnt offer what they want, then they should look for somewhere that will.

And all over Michigan there are many many businesses that give vacation time to all employees, same with California, same with Florida, same with Illinois etc...

You know it is true, but seem to not want to admit it.

There isn't a single poster that said anything about vacation time not being given at all by ALL businesses in any given state.

I'm talking about the "negotiating" nonsense. There is no negotiating, and i don't believe 99% of the people (100% of people on C-D) that claim that they can negotiate for more vacation at their jobs. There is little to no truth to that.

Only very high upper management in corporate America can negotiate vacation. Everyone under that takes what's offered and no more.
