Yeah, typical authoritarian BS. Anything from some one they like (such as West) is freedom of speech, anything from anyone else that is said against what West says is wrong, evil, and racism. It's pretty common for loons to re-interpret the first amendment like that.
If you want to see actual racism in action, look at those batcrap comments. I love the poster that in a single comment goes overboard on Kenya birtherism, blacks aren't Americans, and Obama's mother disgraced herself by having sex with a black man. Plus starts ranting about Obama the Socialist, Marxist, and....Saudi (what the hell).
This video was edited with commentary and mash-ups of Moran's interview with other, unrelated video to construct a message. It's almost Soviet in the way it creates propaganda through the manipulation of media.
Here are Moran's remarks, without editorial commentary (scroll down for video):
In the mash-up version, the interjected text on the black screen states "notice the question had nothing to do with race" then proceeds to Moran making the comment about the Lion King and hyenas.
Note: the Lion King and hyenas have nothing to do with race.
But wait! The mash-up creator invents the association by cutting away to video of Alvin F. Poussaint complaining about how The Lion King depicted the hyenas. So, mash-up creator claims Moran's meaning of the analogy is just what Poussaint says the movie meant. Never mind that Obama is black, as well. Moran's (rather silly, IMO) analogy is meaning that West and others are base characters sniping at the "king of the hill", Obama.
Interestingly, the cutaway breaks the continuity of Moran's remarks, so the viewer doesn't realize Moran is saying that West and the white Gov. Brewer are the hyenas. Yeah, Gov Brewer really reminds you of an inner-city black, doesn't she?
And why does Moran suggest West isn't representative of the African-American community? Well, first, it's just his opinion, but if you look at reality, he's right! West may be a representative of some black voters, but the community - the majority of black voters, do not align with West, his views, or his political party! Facts are facts.
And to point out "climbed aboard ship", "what ship"? Seriously, is the mash-up author trying to say Moran means a slave ship? Seriously? That's like Republicans taking Obama's statement about the GOP needing to get into the back of the car and let Democrats drive, and claiming Obama said "get in the back of the bus" (alluding to historical segregationist practices). When you've got nothing outrageous, start inventing.
I expect that nobody who complains about people like Al Sharpton inventing racial controversy out of benign things will object to Rep Moran's statements. But I won't hold my breath.
