I'm a huge Stones fan!! Don't tell me their going to get blamed for a fight that broke out a black man was killed and the Hell's Angels got the blame, although it was just one Angel that did it.
Jagger and company had been surprised at the media attention given Woodstock, which offered way too little money for the Stones to be interested in. They wanted to make a big money US tour, but Brian Jones' drug conviction was in the way. His mysterious death in July '69 cleared the way for their tour which was then launched almost immediately.
The Stones wanted to "out Woodstock" Woodstock with the free concert at Altamont. The decision to use Hell's Angels as concert security was a truly ignorant decision. Everyone else on the planet knew that the Angels and hippies didn't get along.

They we're young and trying to compete with the Beatles to be on top. In Bill Wyman's book he claims Brain Jones had some medical issues and he chased girls to much to be serious about the band. Guess Jone's suffered from major headaches and would sleep quit a bit. The drug use didn't help him.
Wyman's book puts a lot of prepective to their life. He was straight and didn't party the way the rest did. He says he always liked dressing proper and the rest of the band was okay with what he called messy dressing.

I was in a little truck stop down in Texas one night when they came in, drunk or high as usual. It took them about 5 minutes to clear the place. They were rude, loud, offensive, profane and stunk like a herd of buffaloes. Even the waitresses were ready to leave.
