While these stats may seem to contradict logic (conservative kids have less sex, right?), the researchers note a number of issues that could be at play — and it could have something to do with the states’ sex ed programs.

Keeping kids ignorant really pays off.

Or maybe in right-swinging states they don't abort at the drop of a hat.

Didn't we just see a poll yesterday that said conservatives have less sex?

Can any of you liberal idiots get your story straight?

No. Teenage pregnancy rates are higher in Red States as well.

Maybe you can't deal with that, and feel the need to come up with an excuse as to why, yet again, Conservative States lag in important quality of life measurements?

I live in a "red state" and your points are exactly why I'm conservative. I am conservative because of the liberal policies and aftermaths we're forced to deal with and pay for.

Any demographics besides "red states"? How about data along race and socio-economic makeup. Maybe poor, black teens in a red state skew the results. Maybe it's rich, white girls. Maybe rich, black girls. Maybe it's the kids from blue states who get sent to live with their aunt in a red state. There is always a back story.

NY, NJ, NV, DE, CT, CA, HI, MD, FL and RI have the highest rates of teen abortion (all of them but 2 or 3 "liberal" states). I would think that intentional homicide - which abortion is - is a much graver sin than having sex and becoming pregnant at a young (but biologically perfectly normal) age. New Mexico, Nevada, Arizona, and Texas rank #1-#4 respectively in teen pregnancy, but this is likely (at least partly) because of the high Hispanic population (which tends to have a much higher teen pregnancy rate than the White population).

Maybe if our culture wasn't so degraded and parents monitored their children more strictly, teens wouldn't be having nearly as much sex in the first place.

Political spiel over, it's interesting how rates vary geographically, regardless of politics. The Northern Plains states - Nebraska, South Dakota, and North Dakota - ranked 46th, 40th, and 42nd respectively in teen pregnancy rates, and were also ranked similarly in terms of their teen abortion rates. These states are very conservative - a bill nearly passed in South Dakota that would ban all abortions and challenge the constitutionality of Roe v. Wade back in 2005, so they aren't just fiscally conservative. The states with the high birth rates were in the South. This could be partly explained by the black and Hispanic (in the Southwest) populations there, although I don't know if that's the whole story.

They love the right to life, then they'll complain about all these kids sucking off the government teat.

You do know that it only takes one time to get pregnant...don't you?

From the link...

While these stats may seem to contradict logic (conservative kids have less sex, right?), the researchers note a number of issues that could be at play — and it could have something to do with the states’ sex ed programs.
