You know that the police and various other law enforcement agencies already use helicopters and planes, right?
You also know that "unmanned" doesn't mean "pilotless," and that a real person has to fly the drone - just like a real person has to fly a helicopter or plane - right?
This is primarily about cost and safety. No pilot in the air means that a pilot can't fall to earth and die. No pilot also means a lower price for the aircraft.
The only potential issue here is that there might be more aircraft in the air. Other than that (and that's not a big deal, considering how many are already up there), this is much ado about nothing.
You're like the media giants. You fear new technology, and your failure to understand or embrace it is going to destroy you...

No, it will just crash into a school, or a neighborhood,or a park or an apartment building... but hey at least no cop/pilot/tax feeder will be killed
FYI, not having them at all is the cheapest option and we'll be no less safe for it.
Of surveillance only increases with advancements in tech, And in time. They have satellites in space as of years ago that can read a license plate on the road. This is not tin-foil hat stuff either. There are advancements that have developed tech that are years ahead.
I personally am not worried about a drone overhead broadcasting me walking around NY with an iced coffee.

So your position is that if anyone has to die due to an accident, we should maximize the body count. Got it.

That opinion is not unreasonable, but it is yours alone. Frankly, I'm glad that the police have helicopters. They're a very effective tool.
This thread was started to spread FUD about the possibility of UAVs being used domestically. My point is that everything they're going to be used for is already being done by manned aircraft, and that the use of UAVs is a logical next step in the evolution of law enforcement. If you're a cop hater and think that every LEO is corrupt, you'll naturally think that they're going to do something nefarious with this new tool. What that is, I have no idea, but it seems that there's a few people on this board that just love to hate cops. It's about as rational as thinking that every Republican is racist or that every Democrat is a socialist. But I guess that kind of thinking is par for the course around here...
