Comedian Jerry Lewis on Tuesday apologized for using the word "***" as he broadcast his annual Labor Day Telethon for Muscular Dystrophy.

"That something like this would distract from the true purpose of the telethon pains me deeply," Lewis said in a written statement.

"The success of the show and all the good that will come of it shouldn't be lost because of one unfortunate word. I accept responsibility for what I said. There are no excuses. I am sorry."

I think it is sad that the word has come to be the equivalent of the "n" word to the politically correct morons.

When I was a kid, the word meant wimp, loser, coward, or many other things. It was pretty unusual to hear it used as a gay slur. The "q" word was the popular gay slur of the day.

The motto of politically correct whackos:

Sticks and stones may break my bones, but I'll sue you if you call me any bad names, right after I finish crying to my mommy.

I don't think the word is bad, its the context in which you use it... if you are saying it to compare someone to a person that is gay.. or any characteristics people associate with gay people..then its wrong..
unfortunately the word comes from old english, referring to a burning pile of sticks.. and the burning pile of sticks were what was used in witch burnings and burnings of "undesirables"
words take on different forms as society changes.. in england you might be calling someone a ciggarette by using the word.. but we all know that the word "***" had never been a favorable word here in the united states.. it has always had negative meaning.. and mostly towards a "sissy" man.
I don't believe people should be cruicified for using this word any more than busting out any other swear word.. it offends some.. and others it doesn't..
but what it does do is reflect on that person's character and mindset..
changing people's words is what is politically correct.. and annoying.. the real issue is changing people's minds.. so they don't think about hate... because there's lots who don't say a word.. but think it in the minds... and where did they learn to be this way? that is the issue... a word's a word

Oh, puh-lease....he's an old Jew from back East. Everyone said , ***, ***, feggulah, for eons. Now he's got to be politically correct!

Should not have apologized. Only did it to not stain his charity.

...AND THIS COMING FROM SOMEONE THAT THINKS HE IS A JERK.

The thought police of the left are winning.

I'm not saying he has to be politically correct... I don't think that he hate's gay people.. so what he has said was taken out of context... by associating him with people that do.. because he chose to use a word that they would use... word's a word... its the intent behind it... I don't think he had any intent in harming someone...so its a bit over the top.. I agree

Oh , he's free to say it. Anyone is. And everyone else is free to tell him that he's an a__hole for doing so.

Cuts both ways.
