Never said it did not take a level of skill. Just you do not have to have a high IQ. People without high IQ's can learn skills that do not require a high IQ.
This does not mean there are not some pretty smart truck drivers.
You can have all of that and more and still be nothing! That poor kid behind the counter at Autozone is WAY smarter than the suit who is too dumb to install a battery or wiperblades himself...so he bugs the kids and demands he do it in the parking lot for FREE! Not only is the suit dumber than a box a rocks with no lick of common sense, he's a freakin' tightwad too!
Or maybe that "empty suit" is smart enough to get what he needs without getting his hands dirty or even paying for it. Probably expect that counter boy to do his bidding without offering him a tip.
I've supervised drivers and was a plant maintenance man, responsible for plumbing among other things.
So you can sweat a piece of copper and fittings no problem? Cut and thread your own black pipe? Go unclog a toilet full of pooh that someone couldn't flush for a week and waited to call you? You know flowrates on pipe? How about venting codes on waterheaters? Make sure you can get down on your tummy (provided it's not too big) and belly crawl like a snake under someones house in a crawlspace. With any luck, your shoulderblades will just clear between the dirt floor, broken glass, nails, jagged concrete etc.. and the floor joists. You'll need to fit through an old basement window opening to get at that part of the house. It is an addition on this one. Get back there about 30' in the dark. The only way in or out is to shimmy on your belly. Scared yet?

I was speaking to a devout Republican last night. He said that America needs to go back to the way it was and how capitalism buit America. I said to him that slavery built America and his answer was that i was just using something that was soooo far back in America's history that it was not even worth mentioning. I told him that black people in America had virtually no rights until 1964 and that was under 50 years ago, even now many look at blacks in America as second class citizens and women are still looked that way in many men's eyes. He didn't have a answer. I also noticed that he would not use the President's name but called him by derogatory names...... Hussein Obama or your brown friend in the Whitehouse........ this is disgusting but unfortunately racism and sexism is alive and well in the USA....... even today. He went on to say that if i wanted to hear the truth i should only watch Fox news. He also came out with the same rhetoric about how "nobama" has destroyed the Country and we should get him out and get back to capitalism to save America as it was Capitalism that built America. There was NO way that he would even consider that no one system on its own can work and Capitalism and Socialism must work together because he said that 'freeloaders" are ruining America...... I asked him which "freeloaders" he meant?..... The poorer Americans going through a tough time or illness or the "Fat Cats" getting bailouts? He said that the Banks and big corporations were not getting a handout as they are the employers who will save America by employing Americans and rebuilding the Economy........
At the end of our conversation he said he was a Independant...........lmao.
America will only move forward when many here STOP being brainwashed by the fear tactics of the media, the nasty underbelly of American politics and the rose coloured glasses that many wear regarding the history of America.
This is now 2012 America cannot live in the past, thinking that this is how the job of rebuilding America will happen.......... NO.... That is why America is being destroyed, by greed, corruption and the longing to go back to the days of a two tier system of the wealthy and the slaves.
If we want to compete today we must live in TODAY 2012......... NOT 1776.

I have actually worked on high pressure piping, some of it containing toxic gases. Yes, the residential plumbers skills are a bit of a different set of skills Yes, I can solder, yes, I have cut and threaded pipe, yes I have got my hands dirty.
None of the things you mentioned require a brilliant mind. Albert Einstein ya ain't.

Nope, plumbers and even truck driver need skills and ability. Low IQ isn't going to get you into a legitimate training program for either job.
There is more than steering a wheel or cutting a pipe to these jobs.
As a carpenter, kitchen installer and general contractor I never ran into a plumber with below average intelligence. Most were extremely intellect. Most skilled trademen are bright, even masons are smarter than average. The only subs I worked with that were sub par were drywall hangers and carpet installers. And I'm sure not every one in those trades were sub par.
