Well maybe the violent ones are scum.

But it's hypocritcal to say the sellers are horrible, evil people deserving of large punishments while those found possessing small amounts are ok. The sellers are providing a "service" the users want, a difficult one at that.

The War on Drugs is working very well. We should take it to the next level and go after the casual drug user. That is how the U.S. military wiped out their causual drug users in their ranks back in the early 1980's.

Ever lost a family member to alcohol? I have. I don't run around and tell people we should make it illegal though, his dumb ass shouldn't have drank so much.
Marijuana is a gateway substance. While many deny it's just 'recreational' and does not lead to other drug use, remember this:

Pushers DO believe it and practice their trade on the weakest.

Nope. They are kids. College kids will always do stupid things. And doing something wrong like this is no reason to ruin their lives.

Another reason to make all drugs legal. That would eliminate pushers.

The real war on drugs began in about 1949 - China was very angry with the west for addicting millions of it's youth..to opium - in a sense the west ...damaged the youth and destroyed potential leadership - hence the open door to communism...to this day - China still wants revenge...tons of dope come out of China..via containers- Recently about 30 million dozes of Ecstacy was seized at a Canadian port..there was a small blip of a mention in the media - My government did NOT...even send a reprimand to the point of origin for this dope - They did not even mention to China - "don't do that" - there is not poitical will to save our kids from drugs - there is only greed in high places..

Opium is the real dope. As is it's cousin heroin.

Any evidence for either of these statements?

In my experience, the people who use marijuana are much more likely to use tobacco. In some cases, it seemed like marijuana lead to tobacco.

I disagree. People I've met that prefer M, HATE tobacco. Some will do both, but those seem to have been tobacco smokers first.
