What, are you going to give me a pop quiz on it? Way to deflect and avoid actually facing the point that I made - that socialism and capitalism are not black-and-white concepts in societal practice? It's ok, though, because I have thought of you as someone who shirks rational, independent thought for a very long time, and you've just proven that...well, in every post.

Roy, you've said on several occasions that you used to teach History.
How can that be?
How can someone who taught History in a high school have no idea of basic definitions?

This is truly sad.

Don't accept the words of an English conservative, just sit there in your prog chair and think about how wonderful life is for the people in the areas you know so very little about.
Republicans always say Europe will collapse blah blah blah, and if you notice Europe is stronger than the U.S. and is getting stronger at a faster pace.

A poor Collin from Ireland who makes Irish minimum wage (1400 euros) and has Universal healthcare and walkable cities with top notch modern mass transportation (subways, buses, trams, etc) enjoys a superior quality of life to that of a Floridian middle school teacher who makes 3000 dollars per month who has to pay a car letter, car insurance, 300$ in gas, expressway tolls, car maintenance, health insurance, hurricane insurance, etc etc etc etc.

I have two college degrees and my cousin in Germany enjoys a noticeable superior quality of life. He used to live in Florida and he hated this rat race. After he moved to Germany he told me: the difference is night and day.

This government made 2 mistakes:

Unwalkable cities (Cities made for cars and not people): this way they force people buy gas, and by buying gas the government collects more taxes. Non compact cities have no souls, no social spirit, that why in this country people connect to other through U.S. inventions such as Facebook and forums. Even to go to a bakery you need a car. The only walkable city is the most visited of the U.S. (New York). Also, if people do not walk they get ________ (heavy). There you have the answer why our population is sooooooo heavy.

A social security system without Social Healthcare:
This is the mother of all the mistakes of past governments, Social healthcare is the norm in all prosperous and even developing countries. Well, our army needs money so our past presidents (or whoever was in charge) said "let's take the money that is supposed to finance our healthcare system for the army and let's tell U.S. nationals that Socialism is evil", they forgot to change the name of the social security system, they should have named it nonsocial security system, since this system has no social safety net. In the U.S. it must be horrible being poor, I think people in developing nations such as Brazil or Israel, live way better that poor people in this country.

Great post.

Poor people in developing nations also tend to have stronger families and communities to count on. The American way of life has shattered many of these to make way for excess consumerism, lusting for money and spending too many hours working or commuting to and from work.

As for the poor in Europe, they do not have to worry about forgoing healthcare. It makes it easier for people to change careers too and takes the burden of paying for health insurance away from employers and individuals.

The US is one of the last places on earth of I'd want to have to ask for any kind of help. The poor here are viewed in the same dim light as criminals, in fact white collar criminals are not continually put down as much.

So, you refuse to acknowledge definitions and make up your own to suit your wants at the moment.

Got it.

Yours?

Okay, Okay .. You win!
Socialism: A philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery.

Did you "Get That"?

Communists know what socialism is and where it ends up.

I know where this conversation is going ha ha

After reading through all of the post this conversation went exactly where I thought it was heading. However, I did learn a ton just by browsing through the thread. I think we have a lot more intelligent, reasonable citizens than we realize.
