Sorry, but this is right up there with wiretapping. I personally don't like it, but I feel it is going to be done either with or without consent. I grew up in a very small town in south MS, and even there I knew from a friend who worked for the police that they had illegally tapped calls. The only thing is they knew they could never mention that part, only use it to get a good tip straight from the person they are watching, then fabricate a reason to pull them over in the middle of doing something wrong.

I'm glad the judge did what he did, but it doesn't make me feel any safer.

Any time and money the ACLU spends on this kind of thing makes that much less that they can spend attacking Santa Claus and the Boy Scouts.

So you go, Jameel Jaffer!

Way to display your ignorance, Yeledaf. You obviously have no clue as to what the ramifications of the taking of civil liberties means to this country. And as always, deflect the main issue and make fun of names, take cheap shots, etc. You guys are so incredibly intelectually crafty.

The ACLU has defended all kinds of controversial organizations like the KKK, Neo Nazis and the American Man/Boy love assocations...but they have problems with Boy Scouts.

'Nuff said.

It's kind of like the question "why does a hound-dog lick its nether regions", Tex.

And we both know the answer.

I appreciate your concern, Berkshire. I guess I just haven't noticed any of my liberties having been meaningfully compromised. You'd think a crafty intellectual like me would have perceived it right off, too.

That was the beauty of the US Patriot Act - it was designed not to alert anyone to what information was being milked, from where and about whom regardless of how crafty an intellectual one might be. Your ignorance of any of your liberties having been meaningfully compromised does not mean that they have not been.

Okay. I'll keep an eye on my liberties at all times.

Oh, and by the way -- it's okay for Google and Safeway to keep tabs on us, right?

Yes the ACLU defends people and organizations when government reaches beyond its authority that is defined by the Constitution. Of course some ignorant people would prefer the government to reach beyond its authority in some cases because they are too blind to see it would set a precendent where government would then claim a power it didnt have. Of course when you decide to blind the Constitution from government action, you're nothing less than a traitor to it.
