Yet black people and other people of color seem to fall for it hook, line, and sinker.

Embarrassing.
This coming from folks who blame everything on Bush saying look ahead to the future. Hey folks keep eating up their nonsense and voting em back in so why change I guess???

Its not one issue, When the price of gas goes up, the price to transport goods going across this nation is going to go up. So its not just a gallon of gas that will be hurting people. Its that the price of milk, bread, whatever will also be going up. So not only will we be paying the high amount for gas but goods also.

So how is having less money in our pocket supporting our own self interest? If you think someone is going to vote Hey I am going to be happy to have less money in my pocket, but darn it I am voting in support of pro life. You are out there.

Why would anyone expect Obama to suddenly fix that, particularly given democratic reluctance, and republican hostility, to correcting the problem?

It has nothing to do with "low expectations", and everything to do with realism. Reactionaries that listen to Beck and Limbaugh are already screaming about how the health care bill or the stimulus plan are "reparations" and "Kenyan anti-colonialism", if they saw Obama actually try to address their racial hangups head-on, most of white America would explode. And that includes congress. So there's not much he can do, outside of changing the perception of black people as the job-stealing, AA hire who's lazy and won't get a job because of welfare (never mind that US racism is incoherent). If you didn't know that before he was elected, then you weren't paying attention to how the US has ever operated.
Woww.....that's one heck of a spin job. nice,

He hAD AN OPPORTUNITYY TO CREATE SOME real "SHOVEL-READY" JOBS WITH THIS PIPELINE! BUT NOOOO....HE REJECTS IT FROM OUR FRIEND!!!

The kicker is that we shouldn't even need oil from CANADA EITHER!!!

WE HAVE PLENTY OF OUR OWN THAT HE WON'T LET US GET!!!

You are still chasing that red herring? I do not choose to chase it with you.

We can cherry pick individual issues all day long, both of us. The comment I made remains unchallenged by the facile attempt at deconstruction.

Blacks are simply better at voting in their own self interest than whites are.

That would depend entirely on where the rest of the money is going instead, right?

Well there you go. You're making progress. You have finally managed to hold two issues in your mind at the same time. Now... when you get to the point where you are balancing two dozen issues, then you will be capable of actually understanding what self interest really entails.

But you may not like it. You might start voting like a liberal.

Ok, so blacks are better voting for their own self interests. I'd be curious to know what those interests are?

That would be the right-wing assertion, yes. We'll see how well it plays in November.

The stone age did not end because we ran out of stones. And the oil age will not end because we run out of oil.

Large technological disruptions are always unsettling to the status quo. What we are experiencing has, in the sidereal view, almost nothing to do with presidential decision making.

It is rather fascinating that you seem to consider it a puzzle.

Most black people have significantly lower incomes compared to white people. The democratic party is, undeniably, the party of the poor. It's been this way for generations. Democrats generally believe in bottom-up economic policies (call that socialism if you want to, but it sure helps the poor have a shot at the American dream), while Republicans generally believe in trickle down (hence deregulation, free markets, tax breaks for corporations and the wealthy, loopholes).

Blacks understand the policies of the Democratic party to be directly helpful to them. It's really that simple.
