CONCORD, N.H. (AP) β€” Gay rights advocates are declaring victory after New Hampshire's failed attempt at repealing its gay marriage law, saying it resounds in a region where opponents have concentrated efforts to reverse momentum.

The state House voted Wednesday to kill the measure, ending a push by its new Republican majority to rescind New Hampshire's 2-year-old law. Nevertheless, both sides are pledging to continue fighting into the fall elections.

If the House passed the repeal measure following its two hours of debate, it would have gone to the Senate; both houses are controlled by Republicans. Democratic Gov. John Lynch had promised to veto the bill in any case. The House vote was 211-116.

Outstanding! They needed to get a 2/3rds supermajority to override the veto of Governor Lynch. Instead, they couldn't even get anywhere close to simply passing the repeal, mustering only a feeble 116 votes in the 400-member House.

Good for you, New Hampshire ...

Sad trombone, anyone? This is good news, can't believe we're still 'debating' this in the 21st Century.

They would have never been able to do it anyway since in court their repeal would have been overturned.

Hopefully same sex marriage will soon be legal nationwide.
Mississippi doesn't recognize ANY form of same sex union, or domestic partnership.

Oh, I feel so sorry for those poor freaks who have nothing better to do with their lives than try to impose their values on gays.

Maybe now that they lost they can perhaps find themselves a hobby or a better job that keeps them more occupied.

Probably, though not certainly -- and it would have taken years. On the other hand, the repeal probably would have been stayed pending a final ruling, so marriages would have continued until all appeals were finally exhausted.

But it's nice to see that it failed so completely and massively!

Neither does my state nor do many other states. But that's good, at least the people in these state know same sex marriage is wrong and not buying into the looney tune liberal ideas about things. Marriage is between a man and a woman and that's the way it's supposed to be.

Wrong. Marriage is a civil right, and is there for ALL citizens.
