Liberals will only be content when Fox News and conservative talk radio is gone, leaving only unfettered left-slanted news outlets.

Why does Fox News get called on it's bias or mistakes so frequently? There's a dedicated army of Liberal bloggers, news shows, comedy writers and organizations like Media Matters combing through every word broadcast on Fox News looking for material to criticize. The Daily Show is just another left-wing news source masquerading as comedy (to avoid criticism), which serves to mold and grow negative public opinion of Conservatives. There's a mountain of untapped political comedy gold on the left, but it's ignored because it doesn't serve any purpose to attack Democrats. Occasionally they do make jokes about Dems (in a pathetic effort to deflect criticism of bias), but it's uncommon and done wearing kid gloves while jokes aimed at the right go for the throat.

Do they advertise themselves as being fair and balanced.

My problem with media outlets is not their bias. It is that people expect them to be unbiased. Newspapers and tv stations have never been unbiased. Most were created because of a point of view. Folks are confused. They think that all outlets should have a fairness doctrine. Giving equal time to opposing views was a department edict on the federal government licensed publicly owned airwaves.

Because MSNBC and Fox News are the most obvious with their bias is why. If you watch either channel and don't believe in a heavy bias, then more power too you...

Tempes, I've said it before. You have half the equation right, but you have to stop the political left-right football. People in your camp do the same **** everyday on HuffPo, MSNBC, and CNN. If you get your news from mainstream Western media, chances are you're already just as brainwashed as the Fox crowd. Each side is brainwashed by varying degrees. The Left gets fed the BS about AGW, the right gets fed BS about the need to go to war just to name 2 examples

You must realize that only people way to the right see any mainstream media outlet as left leaning.... The people on the left see most media outlets as leaning to the right.

The way I see it is the mainstream media spend way too much time trying to protect themselves from any criticism from the extreme right. They often cover faux spews generated news just so they aren't accused of ignoring the BS that RNC feed to faux spews.

Faux is way right to cater to a extremism market. To hold that audience they have to feed them news that keeps them coming back.

Msnbc does lean left of center to cater to the left for much the same reason. They may not be receiving daily briefing from the democrat party, but they screen what they air thru a left viewpoint.

Most of the other major news sources are close to the center, some might be slightly left or right, but most people way to the right or left see them as favoring the other side. Maybe that's because they don't base everything they air on a party's agenda.

When your primary news source has been feeding it to you in a bias, slanted fashion, when that bias isn't present in mainstream news you assume they are being bias... It is like a heavy coffee drinker getting a cup of decaf, you know something isn't right but you cannot figure it out. Once you do you'll never take a drop from an Orange topped coffee pot, even if they say it is regular.

Wake up wingnuts, mainstream media, may be lame for a host of other reasons, but they are giving you real NEWS.

Probably because its bias is so obvious and its "mistakes" (intentional deception) are so frequent and egregious. Fox makes it easy to spot the spin and outright lies, like when they talk about some scandal-laden Republican and label him as a Democrat (e.g. Foley), or when they show a graph of the unemployment rate that has 8.6% looking like 9% and worse than 8.8%, or when they just flat out read the talking points to you and then immediately start hammering on it.

And yet, surveys show that those people watching The Daily Show are better informed than those watching Fox. Kind of pathetic when people who get their news from 22 minute show hosted by a comedian know more about what's going on than people who get their news from a supposedly "Fair and Balanced" 24 hour news network.
