A novice! Pulling out your gun and telling the lady to shoot her lawyer counts!

Of course the judge didn't really mean it but if you were standing in court in front of a judge and he whipped out a pistol and said "you might as well shoot your lawyer", wouldn't you find that a bit shocking?

I'd find it shocking alright. (1) He had the handgun in the courtroom. I can't say I blame him there if his State allows it. (2) I would figure he wouldn't want to blow his cover that he had it...which HE DID! (3) I don't know any gun person in my life that would do such a thing, including myself. He was a Judge, he should have had better sense than that. I'm sure he delt with firearm misconduct/misuse and crimes before. (4) He was attempting to hand a loaded firearm to someone who was in the process of possiably not being able to own one legally. (5) He had no idea of the training or firearm experience that person has/had. (6) Don't be the guy to send others away when you are just as big of dumbass!

I suspect a fair amount of judges pack heat since that guy shot up the courtroom in Atlanta a few years back and killed the judge and several other people. The judges know what you and me are not supposed to know and that is that the security and metal detectors will not stop somebody determined to kill.
