Not hard.

Bribe the lookouts to see the iceberg just a tad too late and then turn the ship so that it scrapes the iceberg rather than ramming it, creating a long tear that floods enough watertight compartments to doom the vessel.

Didn't the first officer commit suicide before Titanic sank??
