At $50 per month the pill works out to $600.
Add a doctors visit and a couple of pelvics and you're up to 1k, easily.
Stop with the "quite a bit more sex" nonsense.
It doesnt wash.
Sorry, read the article, she has health insurance, the Doctor visits and a couple of Pelvics, are covered under the university health insurance, (I looked it up).
So, Planned Parenthood's we site,
Quote:
Birth Control Pills at a Glance
Take a pill each day to prevent pregnancy
Safe, effective, and convenient
Easy to get with a prescription
Cost about $15–$50 each month
Now lets say she actually pays the maximum, that's 600$. The other $400 would probably be for condoms, to prevent the spread of STD's. (That's a LOT of condoms).
You see, I actually did MY homework.
Now let's look at a few basic realities. This woman wants birth control covered for a recreational activity. She want's the CATHOLIC University student health insurance to cover it, because it costs so much. Who do you think is going to pay for this? IF for some strange reason, the student health insurance ends up covering it, and they figure the cost at $1000.00 per female student, then all they are going to do is add up the number of female students, Multiply by $1200.00 (They will add 20% to ensure they cover the costs and then some, just in case), and then divide the total amongst all the students purchasing health insurance.
That means, nobody but the students, (who are currently paying for the birth control anyways, (At least I would HOPE the boys are buying some of the condoms, since THEY wouldn't want to contract any STD's), will still be paying for it.
Now, lets be serious. I don't have a problem with sex. I do have a problem when it's for entertainment or gratification purposes only, and the person expects someone else to pay for birth control and their excuse is, that "They only make enough money at their summer job to pay for 3 years of birth control".

You do realize my post was for informational purposes, right?
As far as the bolded sentence in your post, do you have sex for procreational purposes only?
Who do you think you are, the sex police?

Therein lies the problem I think. People don't want to fund things used for others "recreation". The vast majority use contraception for just that; not getting pregnant. Why should the public fund it?

I guess it went over your head (no surprise). THat post is spot on. THat college girl's main argument was she and her pals couldnt afford to have sex. Period. How the hell is that the worlds problem? How is that the Catholic Church's problem? You cant afford it, then make adjustments in your life so you can. No one is telling you what to do but how dare you people ask us to pay so you can have sex. Pay for it yourself or go somewhere else that will pay for it for you. Freeloading, irresponsible jerks.

One can only suppose you have no problem paying extra taxes for any children brought into this world due to lack of BC.
How many children did you say you've adopted so far?
I'll ignore your pathetic attempt at an insult, you really should work on that, though.

You are right, BCP = $15.00 - $50.00 per month. That leaves between $400.00 - $820.00 in costs that aren't accounted for. It's not for Dr visits, that's covered by their health insurance.
Birth control pills can be purchased for as low as $9 per month at a pharmacy near Georgetown’s campus. According to an employee at the pharmacy in Washington, D.C.’s Target store, the pharmacy sells birth control pills–the generic versions of Ortho Tri-Cyclen and Ortho-Cyclen–for $9 per month. ”That’s the price without insurance,” the Target employee said. Nine dollars is less than the price of two beers at a Georgetownbar.
AND, what everyone forgets, the INSURANCE isn't going to lose money, they are going to raise the rates for women, (different needs, different rates), and the women will STILL be paying for their birth control.

So isn't that what we are doing with men on Viagra.....paying them to have sex.
Condoms are free at most all health depts and college campuses, so I did add those in.
She could seriously be having NO SEX and still top a grand a year in BC scripts easily.
These are just a few of the hundreds of BC choices out there that require a script (and aren't given in the Dr.'s office like an IUD would be), and are hormonally based.

Darn, Maybe you should be a bit more proactive in getting pricing.
