I think your claim is a huge overstatement. I am a Catholic and I do not see the Republican Party looking at us as a very big demographic. The far right is more populated by evangelicals than Catholics who often support the Democrats.

I'm Catholic too, harbor. There are folks like Santorum running around the American Church. I'm not down with them, but they are there.

The core of the Republican Party despises Roman Catholics. They're not considered "Christian" enough for the bible thumpers from the Southern Baptist Convention, or the other evangelistic groups. It's from within the Democratic Party the Roman Catholic church has been defended for decades. But the leadership of that church as swung to the right under the current Pope. A defender of so much wrongdoing. I belong to a mainstream, traditional Christian religion/church and 95% of our new members are refugees of the Roman Catholic Church. They're young couples starting families and they've said they don't feel welcome or comfortable in the church where they were baptized. Continue to follow the political and social extremists in the USA and the Roman Catholic church will continue its decline. The choice is theirs.

Couldn't have put it better myself.

Whether it's an attack on Christians, Christmas, liberty, values, white people, etc...they're always crying about some kind of victimization.

This Catholic ish has got to stop. Evangelicals in the past now Catholics. I dread the election when the snake handlers have a platform. Is there anything but religion poeple can get riled up about? Oh yeah, the gays. Then we will know we've come full circle.

Why is the 1st Amendment so unimportant to Democrats?

How about Polygamy then? At least one Presidential Candidates Grandparents fled the United States to avoid prosecution for that bit of Religious Freedom. Will the GOP be bringing that back?
