Many Americans do vote with their conscience, regardless of what Thomas Frank says. And no, I'm not going to waste my time reading his book.

I vote with my conscience.
I'm against abortion.
And I'm against gay marriage - just like Obama.
Well apparently, your conscience is uninformed because Barack Obama isn't against abortion, and he may consider legalizing gay marriages in his next term which will happen. Remember it was he who overturned DADT. You sound like my brother-in-law or one of those sovereign citizens out there who thinks they shouldn't pay any taxes and that all government is evil. That's what happens when you listen to Alex Jones too much.

It is clear that you have no clue what paying taxes means. When I added up the "taxes" or amount of contributions to some form of government or government entitlement program it comes to 45% of my total income..

That means almost HALF of what I make goes to support someone other than those that live under my roof. That means my money is going to people who sit on their a$$ and protest, smoking dope and threatening people like me for not paying my fair share when they pay none.
Forgive me if I don't feel like I am not paying my fair share. When will people understand that the government is good at nothing but defending this country.. They can not create jobs because they take from one person to provide for another.. You know what, just forget it. It's a broken record and I'm tired of playing it.. When the village idiot is out of the whitehouse you will see a turn around in this country within a matter of one year. The stock market will instantly hit previous highs, jobs will come back. I work for a 2B organization and it is no secret the idiot is anti-business. You know what that means? No jobs until he is gone because we don't know what he is going to do next by putting the screws to us.. No jobs no tax revenue, no stocket market returns no tax review..

We need to throw these liberal professors out on their a$$ and get some conservative ones in there so they are not preaching socialism and start teaching economics.

How else do you think they'll come about? Do you honestly think Bill Gates, Ted Turner, Donald Trump, or Rupert Murdoch will spend their earnings to support these programs? Isn't it ironic how few and far between Americans are willing to pitch in? Further, I hear them harp about taxes in Europe and Canada being sky high. Newsflash, everybody! Those nations have superior medicare and education compared to ours. It's amazing how they've managed to prolong and improve their compatibility after their economies were destroyed during World War II. Has anyone else taken note of how many Americans want a deal for nothing?
American's are the most given nation in the world. How much do you expect these people to give and why should they give to these programs? Newsflash, Europe is taking a dump.. Greece tried this model, Spain and Portugal as well.. They are bankrupt..

I don't want something for nothing.. I want the government to do what it was originally intended to do.. protect me and and my family. Not buy votes through entitlement programs and perform functions private industry should.

What in the hell does this have to do with my post? Oh wait, you just wanted to throw out some of your brilliant acronyms and other OWS garbage.

Story of the country (recently).

Americans want every damn thing, and no one want to pay for ANYTHING.

Wasn't always that way, but it's damn sure that way now.

It has everything to do with your post and my post. No surprise you start hurling insults at me. That's what happens when the neo-cons and tea baggers have no counterargument. It sounds like I hit a nerve and tweaked your conscience a little based on your response.

The village idiot DID leave the White House on January 20, 2009. He left a big mess for Obama to clean up. Not everyone who makes less money than you is lazy and smoking pot, either. Spending taxes is all about helping out you, me, and our fellow citizens. Hence, the expression "We the people" in the Constitution. Just so you know, the unemployment rate is lower than it's been in two years while the stock market is better than it's been in four. It appears you're either misinformed, or you haven't been keeping up. As far as American's being given the most in the world, that may have been true at one time but not anymore. When you say you want the government to protect you, do you mean all your financial assets and your accounts?

Gotta love the Occupy folks. Watching them go round and round is so entertaining. Looking forward to some more public displays of sheer ignorance once the weather warms up.

The cost of education goes up and up and the quality of education goes down and down. There is no correlation between money spent and how well children learn.

I would much rather see school systems taking some initiative to develop effective programs. Education is one of the few facets of society where they can hold out their hands and demand more and more and more money and be perfectly ok with having nothing to show for it.

I totally agree with Yooperkat. Cut programs that do not work, reduce spending, cut taxes and demand ACCOUNTABILITY by all school districts for every penny they spend. Get rid of the stupid "touchy feely" classes and replace them with things like reading, writing and 'rithmatic. And while you're at it, get rid of the superfluous tech classes (come on *every* kid knows how to operate a computer these days).

Why thank you for your kind words, Yooperkat. I get my info from all sources. I listen to ABC World News, CNN, MSNBC, and BBC. I also listen to Rush Limbaugh and hear what that gasbag has to say, believe it or not. Unlike some people, I still listen to what the other side has to say even if I don't agree.
