Nope, the shortest day is still at the winter solstice. However, the earliest sunset is usually in the first or second week of December, and this is what you may be referring to. Assuming you live in or near Tahlequah, on Dec. 3rd the sun set at 5:06, length of day 9h 53m. On Dec. 21 the sun set at 5:09, length of day 5h 43m. This pattern applies to every city in the USA, varying slightly depending on the distance from the equator.

I love that it's earlier, more daylight in the evening. Less in the morning when I'm not even awake anyway. I certainly haven't heard a single person complain about it....except of course on CD.
