This bill was for concealed carry. They already have a process which works. This bill would have created a law at conflict with existing law.
I support concealed carry. I also support a state's right to regulate concealed carry within the framework of the 2nd Amendment.
And as long as the definition of a wack job is clear, I support restricting gun sales to wack jobs.
The reality is that criminals won't obey the law anyway.
That definition of "whack jobs" is a political determination and subject to change over time. If one "whack job" can be denied his Constitutional right to keep and bear arms, so can another who fits someone else's definition of "whack job."
Once you accept the premise that some people can be denied their rights, you open the door to ANYONE being denied them.
I thought the GOP was the party of smaller, less intrusive government. Yet, here is a Governor deciding that only the "right" kind of people will have their Constitutional privileges protected by government.

1. I am probably more constitutionalist than anything, however I vote republican and I think that the governor did the right thing here. I guess that actually tosses your whole post in the wash.
3. I don't believe that felons should own guns. I do believe that carrying works though. Don't believe me? Kennesaw Georgia... They passed a law that required all head of households be armed and ammo'd, unless they were opposed, a felon, or not legal to carry for some other reason. They have one of the LOWEST violent crime rates in the nation, and was rated one of the least stressful cities to live in.
