You'd be surprised how many companies do this. I used to work for an alarm company and homes that were in the "low income areas" always got the refurbished equipment. Sometimes buttons would be sticking, it would scratched, chipped, etc.

You're right. In college I worked at a place that gave used products to black customers in "certain neighborhoods". The manager would also substitute a cheaper product when they paid for a more expensive product.

Yeah, and I live in an upper middle class neighborhood but have a very nice sportscar. You dang well know if I am getting bids from contractors to do some work in my place....I keep my garage door shut. I also tend to get higher bids to do the same work since I moved to a nicer area.

So, sometimes it's just companies doing what they think they can get away with socio-economically.
