The more things change, the more they stay the same. Robinson and the
Montreal Royals were forced to leave Sanford; what chance did a teen have when a great player wasn't welcomed there? Had it not been for the same racism that exists there today, Sanford would likely have had a museum or memorial for Robinson; bigotry negates the ability to thrive,
both individually and collectively.

Well duh it was during Jim Crow. What does it have to do with today or Trayvon? Sanford has a black mayor and city manager.

Many parts of Florida are still "old south" . The confederate flag is on people's trucks and cars. Usually more in central and rural areas. Anyone who doubts this should take a trip trough Belle Glade Florida, you'd get an education on parts of America that still exist (but no one talks about)

That makes the premise even more stupid. Since when do zip codes constitute a reasonable correlation to events that span more than 60 years?

It's time for the Trayvon Defender's to come back down to Earth for a moment.

In 1863 there were riots in NYC that resulted in the black population be driven from Manhattan. Would you say as a result NYC today is a hotbed of virulent anti-Black racism?

Since when does the rebel flag automatically mean racist?

No, but obviously it depends who is flying it...

The Confederate flag has gone through a number of face lifts since its origin. During the course of the Civil War, this flag represented Southern rebellion and defiance to the United States Constitution. According to the anti-defamation league, although some Southerners see the flag simply as a symbol of Southern pride, it is often used by racists to represent white domination of blacks and Jews. The flag remains a subject of controversy because some Southern states still fly the flag from public buildings or incorporate it into their state flag’s design. Racists also use the flag as an alternative to the American flag, which they consider to be an emblem of what they describe as the Jewish-controlled government.

Illinois was a Union state, but the Confederate flag is seen here, and it's certainly not in celebration of our "Southern heritage." It's meant to be seen as a racist statement. It's that way in all every state that fought the treason of the Confederacy.

As a Southerner, it weirds me out to see Northerners with the Rebel flag...but to assume that Southerners displaying the Confederate flag are racists is a stereotypical and narrow-minded assumption in and of itself. Southerners are the only ones in this nation that can't celebrate their heritage without attracting haters. It's very PC to celebrate your heritage unless you're a white Southerner. Unfortunately, one reason for this is that true racists have adopted the flag...
