Nation & World | Teen's death puts spotlight on symbols wrapped up in hoodie | Seattle Times Newspaper

Says longtime liberal commentator Geraldo Rivera:

“I am urging the parents of black and Latino youngsters particularly not to let their children go out wearing hoodies. I think the hoodie is as much responsible for Trayvon Martin‘s death as much as George Zimmerman was.

As a Seattle Times commenter notes, it is a very high profit item for corporate America. Three tubes of fabric sewn togther, along with a hood and flap pocket, and selling for as much as $100.

Isn't this basically an assault style garment? Isn't it time to consider a ban. Remember when Al Gore called for a federal ban on this type of garment? Did he have it right?

Really? A hoodie was as responsible as some overzealous fool with a gun?

Agree with you on this one. If anything should be outlawed it should be droopy below the hipsters pants. Hate to put it this way, but tired of looking at hairy men's cracks.
As i had to on Saturday while at Lowes. Guy was walking, and his azz was out there for all to see. Really for all to see.
I know so many people young and old who wear hoodies. Are we going to ban everything, because of certain incidents.

You can never ban stupid unfortunately so no leave the hoodie alone, next it'll be the stocking cap and then sneakers.

Yes, let's blame the latest media circus on a garment. Those nasty hoodies, always stealing cars and burglarizing homes. Of course, if they're empty... they can't do anything.

I KNOW! Let's make them wear burqas instead!

Saggy pants are trashy, but nothing worth banning. If they want to appear that way, let them. Doesn't mean you have to deal with them.

That is very un American to ban a style of clothing. Go to Wal-Mart anywhere in the South at any time during the day or night. There are all kinds of fashion disasters....Where would federal bans on clothing stop?

I think we can all agree Burmuda shorts with black socks and dress shoes should be banned, especially while mowing a yard. That's the only exception to no ban.

One more... fat guys wearing speedos should be banned.

Yeah, I live in Portland, I go jogging in the rain with a hoodie on, hood up, all the time...

Oh, wait, I'm a 30-year-old white guy with glasses, looks like I might be alright.
