This is something Florida still hasn't addressed - why are there patches of its cities that basically operate as lawless, third-world warzones?

Because in FL the mindset is mostly "that's just the way it is". There is a thread on the Orlando boards about the Trayvon Martin case, one Floridian is on there saying they know how to handle things and don't need to do things the way other states do....LOL.

Yet FL thanks to the lack of drug database and not clamping down on "pain clinics" is now known as the Pill Mill State.

FL leads the nation in deadly hit and runs but does nothing to get the uninsured and unlicensed off the roads.

It's a very reactive state.

Exactly right. The media isn't making a big circus out of these deaths, it could almost not find space to report on the killings of these two guys because the Martin case is so much more impressive -- but why?

Even a local issue you can turn into an I hate Obama issue... Really we get it... and don't care!

This is a tragedy for a family. While they see one of the few names they know as being important, they probably don't realize it would fall more on a governor... don't expect much from that one... He knows he is a one termer.

Parts of Florida are very dangerous and very deceptive for a tourist. In many Florida cities, it's so easy to stray from what seems like a good area to a bad area. The palm trees make it seem exotic to outsiders, especially for someone from northern Europe or other parts of the US, who would associate "bad" with gritty, graffiti covered areas.

Not that it even remotely excuses the remorseless animal that did this. At least the sentence was the right one though, IMO. Life, no chance of parole, meaning he'll die in prison.

I've read several articles which showed that statistically, the top 5 most dangerous cities in the US for pedestrians are ALL in Florida. Quite scary really. The Sunshine State has some pretty deep seeded problems and the smokescreen is finally being lifted as they're making national and international headlines.
