You then have to be invited for an assessment at your local airport which includes I believe a vision test and some interviews.

You then have to fill out a bunch of forms that ask every fricken personal question under the sun.

You then are investigated in a FULL back ground check, (since it IS Department of Homeland Security).

You are then, perhaps, invited to come in and go through another round of interviews.

If you manage to pass all of that, you become a member of the TSA.

What I want to know is how in the hell did some of these people make it through all of that?!
Affirmative Action.

Most TSA people have been perfectly fine to me. In fact some have actually made my day. And no, I'm not kidding.

Back to TSA, the same quality of individual hires that TSA are the very same people who were hired by private security firms at airports before the establishment of TSA. The only thing that has changed is whose uniform they wear. For me, and I travel by air a lot, I have never encountered anything but the most professional and civil interaction with TSA and I really don't consider myself exceptional considering the millions of people who move through the nations airports everyday.

Thanks for playing but wrong answer. As documented in this article, the TSA has forced at least 1 airport to issue a security badge to an employee of theirs who had a felony record.

TSA orders Richmond airport to give security clearance to felon | WSLS 10

When the TSA advertises on pizza boxes and at gas pumps, the quality of who they hire is clearly not very high.

And to think, there are many Americans out there that feel safer now with TSA guarding the air space and who gets on planes. Really...

Same here. Airlines are perfectly capable of providing their own security and will do so much more cost effectively than any central bureaucracy.
The wars on drugs and terror have done nothing but turn us all into criminals until proven innocent.
