What, you mean that telling young people that alcohol is the wringings from the Devil's own Satanic Jockstrap, never, ever to be touched until they're 21, they may - <gasp> - over-indulge when they suddenly find themselves no longer under supervision? Who could possibly have predicted that?

Unless today's youth are a whole lot different than my day...I got a newsflash for ya. College age young adults, away from parental supervision, drink. Alot. And do stupid things. And have sex. What's news about that?

This is what we get when we wipe out God, break up families, absolve everyone from any personal responsibility or consequences for their actions and dumb down our educational system.

But, that is the path we have taken and maybe that is why we probably do need free contraception (and abortions - for those who are too drunk to remember to use it) and free health care for all. Probably a good idea to forgive these poor kids from their college debt also; can't expect someone to make it to work every day with a b*tch of a hangover. Oh, and better include a lot more free legal aide to help with the lawsuits of the rape cases, when the young women pass out and are taken advantage of. Understandable why we need to raise taxes. We've got a responsibility to help the general welfare in their pursuit of happiness.
Totally, remember when we had god around? Slavery, women as chattel, 16 hour work days, child labor - it was awesome! Wish we could get that back.

Most of the college parties I remember involved a lot of people sitting around getting stoned and acting like they were God. Kind of like this forum but for the stoned part.

No, your thread is what we get when people overreact over the actions of a few.

Actually, what you get is social conservatism.

While I do believe that popular culture plays a large part, this behavior long pre-dates anything we are seeing in the media today. As for education, what does it say when there are parents all over the country grooming their children for slots at Dartmouth or Yale or any of the myriad other universities where this behavior is part of the legacy?

And as for who is trying to 'combat it?' Well, as I noted, Rolling Stone has a current story and has reported on other hazing, etc. situations in the past.
Hardly a bastion of conservatism.

Back to the basic topic and a question it begs. Do you think these type of parties encourage women getting raped? And if a woman of age, willingly attends them, gets half naked & gets drunk out of her mind, has sex to which she can't remember consenting, is it rape? And is this what liberals are fighting for free contraception for? And is contraception the only answer? Or should we be encouraging a certain level of morality and more self-respecting behavior to begin with instead of simply dealing with the after effects? Like this group has done?

"Last fall, Yale banned “Sex Week” from campus following complaints from a conservative group called Undergraduates for a Better Yale College (UBYC),...“We heard over and over from students, faculty, and staff that ‘Sex Week at Yale,’ a student-sponsored event, is highly problematic,” the university wrote in a statement. “A student-initiated event begun in 2002,... this event clearly has lost the focus of its stated intention and in recent years it has prominently featured titillating displays, ‘adult’ film stars, and commercial sponsors of such material.”

"The College Fix reported that the school reversed its decision a few weeks later to allow “Sex Week” to continue — the only difference is that Yale’s name is not to be included..."

"The group that complained about “Sex Week” in the fall, UBYC, will also be recognizing the days comprising “Sex Week,” but the weeks leading up to Valentine’s Day will be “True Love Week,” focused on promoting relationships, chastity, marriage and love."
