A Christian who really lives the Commandments to love God with all their heart, mind and strength and who loves their neighbor as themselves SHOULD be liberal.
Loving others includes illegals, crack babies, welfare addicts, homosexuals, prisoners, foreigners, Muslim's...every human being on earth. A true Christian shouldn't even be able to hate or disparage those kinds of people, the ones the right are up in arms over. Instead, a truly loving Christian should defend them from attacks from anybody, especially those claiming to be "christian's" and hiding behind the "love the sinner, hate the sin" rhetoric.
It is only by doing so that a true Christian will be in a position to preach the Gospel to the lost. It's very difficult to tell those "unworthy" people about the Love of Christ after having condemned them and consigned them to the outer darkness of society.
Shouldn't this be posted in the United Kingdom forum since the study cited is about "Britons"? Or does the Politics forum include countries other than the USA?
The OP certainly knows that in the USA, most believers are not leftists.

I agree with everything you wrote above with the except that they should be liberal. It is God's words in the Bible that have remained constant through the thousand of years of civilizations rising and falling, including the country we live in today. Liberalism today is different from it was decades ago, and can be different in the future. The same applies to the conservatism.

God words in the Bible are a constant, but so to is the love of God toward all in His creation. If a person who calls himself a Christian indulges in anything less than the same kind of uncritical, undeserved love God has for us toward other people, he'd better check his Salvation.
