Evenstar51 = "one party refusing to govern as they were elected to do"

You must be referring to the Democrat-controlled Senate, which has not passed a budget in more than two years, neglecting one of the most basic responsibilities of governance.

No where but down the toilet bowl for this country.

I think there is a very strong chance for a Mad Max scenario to play out in this country within the next 10 years.

So true!

Goodbye to All That: Reflections of a GOP Operative Who Left the Cult

Among the GOP base, there is constant harping about somebody else, some "other," who is deliberately, assiduously and with malice aforethought subverting the Good, the True and the Beautiful: Subversives. Commies. Socialists. Ragheads. Secular humanists. Blacks. ****. Feminazis. The list may change with the political needs of the moment, but they always seem to need a scapegoat to hate and fear.

The reason for the extreme intensity in the arena of US politics is that, at this moment the country is at an historic crossroad.

One side wishes to 'rewrite our history' and force socio-economic-political change under the guise of healthcare, human caused global warming and redistribution of wealth.

No longer are these elections just to select a different seasoning of the same meal, it is life or death for the system that has made us the world leader and most envied country in the world.

The greatest tradgedy to befall our country has been the surrender of the news media as the peoples' watchdog. The media has turned propaganda machine and supports the current administration to the point of supporting class warfare to divide the country and re-elect the greatest mistake the country has ever elected.

I wouldn't say necessarily that most Americans on this forum are extreme partisans, but rather that most of the venom spewed here is from extreme partisans.

Most people have their opinions but are fairly respectful of those who disagree with them.

I listen to their points of view and try to be reasonably thoughtful in who I vote for. I think most of the 85% who turn out to vote would do the same and there would be a small percentage who vote 'because their dad voted this way' . Even if the party I vote for doesn't win, and I may not like the way they want to go, I always assume it's a difference of opinion and it's their honest attempt to do the right thing not an attempt to 'screw' the population .
US elections seem money centred and very vitriolic. Am I right?
The fact is, our government screws us over on a daily basis and both sides are plenty ticked off about it.

We vote for someone, they get elected, they do crap, it affects us either in a short amount of time or in the long run. Right now we are being affected by things that were done some years ago as well as being affected by things that were done under this administration.

We are all ticked off, we are frustrated, we'd like to think that the guy we voted for wouldn't do this to us so we blame the other people when the reality is, both sides have screwed us over badly.

Another part of that anger is knowing that some people vote not knowing a damn thing about politics, repeating verbal diarrhea that they heard "on the news" or on some asinine blog, making sweeping generalizations, saying, "all liberals" or "all republicans" and never seeing that there is a gray area...it gets old, it gets boring, and it just makes you want to smack the crap outta them. 'WAKE UP!'

We wonder why did they vote for this person or that? WHY!? Are they insane? What is wrong with them?!!! Look what happened?!

But in the end, it really boils down to: we all get screwed no matter who is in and we never learn, ever, EVER and we are ticked right off right now. None of us have solutions, we are just pissed. So, we take it out on each other.

But in the end, no matter how much we argue and bicker and carry on like squabbling brothers and sisters, you **** with us as a country, we tend to stand together. Sure, not everyone does, but overall, we do become united again.

In a way, I like these "see ourselves as others see us" posts, b/c I think they are enlightening. However, I also have problems taking them totally seriously. A superficial view of American politics from the outside is a bit simplistic.
