How much credit do you give to Ronald Reagan for the freeing of the Iran hostages?
Everything. They knew he would have attacked them had they not released the hostages. The Iranian regime would have been decimated had they not let the hostages go. It was a smart move. Perhaps Obama could learn a few things from Reagan in dealing with the Iranians.
He scared the hell out of the Iranians because they knew he would come kick their asses. Unlike the coward Democrat that preceded him. When Reagan was in office the bad guys did not fool with us. They knew better.
Reagan was so afraid hostage situations in the middle east that he sold arms to Hezbollah and Iran to get 7 hostages released. I have fond memories of Reagan but time and history have tempered the Reagan "Aura".
IF you had been old enough to know what was going on during that time, you would know that Reagan escalated the arms race (so it was believed) in such a way that the USSR was forced to keep up. Or so they thought.
Their entire economy & infrastructure was perilously fragile at that point, and their side of the escalated arms race put them over the edge. You can ignorantly deny that all you'd like, but history is not on your side.
Would the USSR have collapsed had Carter won a second term, and Reagan never been President? Maybe, but probably not at that time, and not in that way.
Being young and actually reading about history is better than being an old fool. The Soviet Union would've collapsed whether or not Reagan, Carter or John Travolta were president. The Soviet government putting a huge tax on vodka, economic and political collapse, glastnost/reforms letting in Western products and ideas and Gorbachev moving to end the Cold War were the reasons there's no USSR today. Saying Reagan killed the USSR is simply untrue and it is shameful to deny the role of the actual people within the USSR who did the real work in its collapse like Gorbachev, Lech Walesa and the millions of brave protestors and dissidents.
Of course you would assume that. Why else would you write such an incoherent post?
So, it looks like nobody yet - not even the person who wrote the post - has any explanation for what a " 'but Obama didn't pull the trigger' rightwinger" is.
I thought as much. It was merely an incoherent blurt from a sullen, confused mind.
Lighten up a little, If there were no incoherent, sullen, confused minds, we would have no democratic party...!
It was Carter who got those hostages freed. Don't believe me? Who would the right wing be giving the credit to if Osama bin Laden was shot and killed 20 minutes after Obama was sworn in? Exactly
Osama was killed three years into obama's reign, and he had nothing to do with it. Bush started the process, and Panetta pulled the trigger while little o was trying to change the subject and hope it would all go away..
There isn't a male hormone in that wimps's body...!!
It's no use trying to explain it to them. You can tell the GOP six ways to Sunday, and they'll never accept the fact that the black guy did the job Bush failed to do the entire 8 years he was in office tooting his horn. Not only are the GOP apathetic towards the working class, women, and minorities. They also hate being outshined by the DNP. It's that simple.
