Let's be honest, is the Bible belt really the Bible belt? Is it just a name that folks in that region like to make themselves feel better?

It sounds more PC than "The land of hicks, racists, trailer parks, and GOP welfare recipients"

Well, I live in the crotch of the Bible Belt, home of Pat Robertson. It's called the Bible Belt because the number of religious persons is at a higher concentration than the national average. However, in this country, most "religious" people only use religion as a mean to feel Holier Than Thou towards the "commonfolk".

I prefer to call it the 'Banjo' belt - far more apt.

"You sure got a purty mouth"

Oh, you mean it's not an actual belt? I could have sworn half the U.S. was made of leather.......

It's just a saying, and it is accurate. The name was given due to observation.

Bible Belt is a Yankee term. Nobody in the Bible Belt has ever said "Bible Belt".

Nobody says "Back East" except people from "The East'. "Back East" is always said with such a New York accent.
