"The course’s instructors, Grant Booth and Wael Elasady, are both admitted socialists. They define the course’s goals as:
1. Students will learn the fundamentals of Marxist theory
2. Students will apply a Marxist analysis to current events
3. Students will apply Marxist theory to local political and community organizing
Moreover, students will seemingly be required to forge a “community connection” with a local community/political organization from a specified list. Some of the “approved” organizations include: Occupy PSU, Students United for Palestinian Equal Rights, Occupy Portland, Portland Boycott-Divestment-Sanctions Coalition (BDS), Jobs with Justice, and the May Day Coalition."
The school also offers many, many courses in capitalism (they have an undergraduate business major and a graduate business school) with classes that encourage or require "community connections" with "approved" organizations as a practical component of the coursework.

I don't think one needs to be Marxist to find this kind of a course interesting or important. In fact, I would think a staunch anti-Marxist would want to take this in order to understand how to avoid Marxism at all costs.
Think of it this way, we do not want our kids to be Nazis, but we still think teaching them about WWII is important. Why is this any different?

So only the curricula that you approve should be taught? How about evolution? Do you approve of that being taught in public schools?

Yep, as I figured. Supporters of Marxist/Communist indoctrination. This is more than "learning" about it, it is being "active" in it.
So if you know about something, you are now indoctrinated?
I know a lot about German history, my family came over right after WW2...does that mean I am a Nazi even if I find it vile and hideous?
I know about Quakers, I grew up in Pennsylvania...does that now mean I was indoctrinated to be a Quaker?
Considering all the high tech devices I own, and not being Christian, not even close.
Only some one with fewer brain cells then teeth believes that learning or knowing about a subject means you agree with it and practice it. It's pure anti-intellectualism.
You know what's real indoctrination? Keeping people ignorant of everything besides what you agree with, instead of letting people make up their own minds.
Keeping people ignorant in that fashion, instead of educating them on other subjects, is part of the definition of the term.
Marxism is an economic theory as many others, however it is very important to know about it, as is it very contrary compared to others. Economic students should learn about it, it is essential to be informed about the ideas of Marx as well as other important philosophists/econimists like Keynes, Smith, Friedman.
What is the issue, besides Marxism is a word that makes Americans go crazy?
If a theory is not applied in course, students will never know how this theory is proven wrong or false, and how it effects life, economy and society. Actually, no student is forced to chose this class, so whats wrong with it?
