So with all the red states needing to be cut off from any government social programs and presumably all the democrats, all the blacks, all the immigrants.why bother having a United states at all, why not just dissolve the government and let all the states go it alone?

Maybe if the governments in those states used that money on education instead of pissing it away on smokestack chasing things wouldn't be so crappy. But if you think any of that money's going to honestly needy people you're sorely mistaken.

If you knew Louisiana history you would know that for more than 100 years our state and local governments have been majority Democratic party, along with many other southern states that have recently begun to move towards the Republican party. So as long as poor southern states were firmly Democratic party, government handouts were fine with you. As for education, part of our region's (Cajun country) problem with education goes back to the aftermath of the civil war. Union troops were shocked to discover people in south Louisiana only spoke French. They made the French language illegal NAND brought in school teachers from up north and told them to get the kids speaking English. French, then only language these students knew, was banned. Some teachers would beat or even use bull whips on students for speaking French in class. The teachers were backed by the Union Army. Many parents kept their children from school because of the beatings. Several generations could not read or write. Things began to turn around with WW2 when USA needed these French speaking Cajuns to fight in France. It's been a long struggle. I have an uncle who could barely read but smart enough to work as an oil field consultant when he retired. My dad quit school in the early 60s. He got his GED while in the Navy, worked in the oil field, studied computer programing in the late 70s and early 80s, and moved up to working with computers and training employees on how to use the computers and new software. He retired from Haliburton with a cushy office job. He's since passed on from lung cancer (he quit smoking in 85).

This is one of those statistics that is meaningless without a breakdown of what those federal dollars are for. For example....... are they including highway funding? I-80 runs from San Francisco to NYC, one of the longest states it runs through s Nebraska. While it's a benefit to Nebraskans if left to their own it's unlikely such a road would be built or maintained. It's the country as a whole that benefits.

Some other examples, are we including federal facilities like Los Alamos which is in NM at the top of the list?

If the Fed Govt would do something about Illegals streaming into many of the states we could reduce many welfare benefits everywhere.

Fewer persons per square mile generally means fewer tax payers, and with the federal government's financial responsibilities reaching into sparsely populated areas (Yellowstone, White Sands, Ft Campbell), the money going out often exceeds that coming in by a wide margin.

state/payment ratio/population density/state designation by color

1. D.C. ($6.17) Blue all day!

2. North Dakota ($2.03) 9.3 humans per sq/mi

3. New Mexico ($1.89) 15 humans per sq/mi (blue)

4. Mississippi ($1.84) 60.6 humans per sq/mi

5. Alaska ($1.82) 1.1 humans per sq/mi

6. West Virginia ($1.74) 75.1 humans per sq/mi (purple)

7. Montana ($1.64) 6.2 humans per sq/mi

8. Alabama ($1.61) 87.6 humans per sq/mi

9. South Dakota ($1.59) 9.9 humans per sq/mi

10. Arkansas ($1.53) 51.3 humans per sq/mi (purple)

1. New Jersey ($0.62) 1,138 humans per sq/mi

2. Connecticut ($0.64) 702.9 humans per sq/mi

3. New Hampshire ($0.68) 137.8 humans per sq/mi

4. Nevada ($0.73) 18.2 humans per sq/mi (purple)

5. Illinois ($0.77) 223.4 humans per sq/mi

6. Minnesota ($0.77) 61.8 humans per sq/mi

7. Colorado ($0.79) 41.5 humans per sq/mi (purple)

8. Massachusetts ($0.79) 809.8 humans per sq/mi

9. California ($0.81) 217.1 humans per sq/mi\

10. New York ($0.81) 401.9 humans per sq/mi

The true red states listed have an average population density of 29.1 humans per sq/mi, but the blue states listed have a population density average of 461.6 humans per sq/mi. That means the blue states listed are on average almost 16 times as densely populated and the red states. To put it another way, the blue states have 16 times as many tax payers.

strange, I did not know there were red states or blue states. but if you look at it, then the blue states want more taxes and they dont care who they have to steal from to get it. also look at the fact that blue states tend to be less friendly to its citizens and dont like giving their citizens more freedom from goverment.
