Who the hell are these idiots that work on minimum wage for their entire 40 years of life... I haven't met a single person who worked at minimum wage for their entire life and then start retiring... we don't not change a system because people aren't smart enough to get better jobs... we change the people to go get better jobs... all minimum wage jobs weren't designed for careers..

Cool so where do I go to get a better career? And who would hire a minimum wage career changer over 50?

FWIW - I would, like my suggested income tax , levy a SS tax on all income from all sources.

I figure if you obtain an income you can spend, it should be taxable. Capital Gains and similar bonuses should be taxed as straight income.

Wall-mart hires a lot of older folks at minimum wage. So do any number of low buck operations. Some people do not realize that not everyone is financially successful and seem to think these people should be punished for not being winners. As if being poor is not punishment enough.

The program does have one serious problem, however its benefits are too low. So let's increase social security benefits. Here's the article.

Quite an amusing article.

It's all about increasing our already bloated government's spending.

So while we are doling out more and more government benefits, let's just pay everyone to retire on $100,000 per year at age 55. Wouldn't that be wonderful?

Yes, and we should end all government subsidies and bailouts. Including farm subsidies and energy subsidies.

Social Security is an insurance system designed to provide a spendable income to elderly that never made enough to save for a pension, lost their savings in a stock market or bank failure or suffered a catastrophic illness that drained their savings in favor of the overpriced medical industry.
Your forgot to include the millions who were just to lazy or lacked self control to save for retirement. The leeches.

The obvious solution is to stop the government from stealing the money.
