Look, government employment went up to 1 out of 9 people today from 1-100 around the 60s.
Bloated size of government in terms of manpower count is a different issue than whether they are paid fair wages comparable to private sector.
I don't think you'll get much argument that government could use staff cuts, and the trend has been in that direction. However the OP's premise attempting to use an apples-to-apples comparison of a an pm average far more skilled and educated government workforce to the overall civilian one is a poor.
Look, government employment went up to 1 out of 9 people today from 1-100 around the 60s. This is unsustainable and why are public servants who are paid with private sector taxes paid top wages? Used to be they got about half in exchange for a steady job.
All went south when they allowed unions in who then paid in donations politicians to grow and overpay them.
We need to fire 90% of them back to the private sector.
Why also do we allow government to be bloated like a 750 pound man? We need to trim that 60% as well.
Since we've been seeing average private sector wages stagnant or declining since about 2000, shouldn't that really mean that private sector workers are simply underpaid and should be getting paid more by private companies, rather than governmental workers being overpaid?
There is no such thing as an "average" public or private-sector worker. You would have to compare comparable jobs to one another. And you can't just roll "health care benefits" into salary and spit out a number - you'd need detailed breakdowns of salary and coverage plans.
In other words, UPS workers probably make more than mailmen from the post office.

If you don't like it because federal workers make more money than you, don't fight them, join them!

That was the giant sucking sound.(-33%) Either way you slice it the private sector pays for the govt. Jobs going overseas was considered good for the investment portfolios. So was making banking and market changes to go hog wild for govt et al.

My point is simply that America shouldn't be about a race to the bottom, but a huge amount of people unfortunately seem to have become comfortable or resigned to that idea.
