I guess it depends on your definition of "many". Sure, there are some Jews who think that. But the vast majority, even the very liberal Jews, believe that a safe-haven is necessary for Jews.
And so do, pretty much, all of us conservatives. If you continue this conversation with these people (liberals) you are going to see what how they really feel and you aren't going to like it. In fact it may terrify you.
I have interests beyond Israel, and "the other guy" pretty much stomps on every other principle I hold... so again, Obama is the lesser of evils for ME.
Socialism, abortion, the welfare state, government employment, access to the state or government treasury and the "I'm a victim" mentality?
That IMO seems to dominate left thinking these days.
They pass it on through Judges they get in, teachers at school and government employees IMO.
The Jews in Israel I hear give Obama a 3% approval rating.
Hamas gives him a probable 97% approval rating, especially after the billion Obama gave which probably enabled the thousands of missiles into Israel since Obama took office.
I think this is a very typical point of view in the American Jewish community.
All of the anti-Obama trash talk you read here is a lot of made up stuff by people who suffer a seething hatred of Obama and will say anything to smear him. Oh, to somehow bolster their claims they will cite some right-wing opinion piece by an anti-Obama columnist.
Obama is the trash talker. He is the one who told Netanyahu not to build. Obama has no power to run Israel. Obama thinks he has.
November 2011 -- During the G20 Conference in Cannes, France, President Obama and French President Nicolas Sarkozy caused an international uproar after Sarkozy said he was fed up with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
'I don't want to see him anymore, he's a liar,' Sarkozy says.
Obama replies: 'You've had enough of him, but I have to deal with him every day.'
I'm with you. My Jewish family will not vote for him and neither did they in 2008!
We don't vote based on color, religion, etc...but on facts and what the person track record is, since we don't have a crystal ball to foreseen the future we judge on facts and the facts were and still are not in his favor!
I work at a Jewish institution, am active in Jewish philanthropy (Boston's CJP - one of the biggest Jewish philanthropic federations in the nation), and am in a grad school program that partners with dual degree MBA-MA Jewish Professional Leadership.
Based on my experience in those communities, you are so far off the mark that it's practically opposite day. The Jews in these majority-Jewish communities (of all Jewish traditions) are very pro-Israel and also very socially liberal. Obama is generally spoken of as not going far enough, but I have never heard him called anti-Jewish or anti-Israel in any manner other than sarcastically.
When did you emigrate? If you don't mind my asking.
