the higher education community (at least in my neck of the woods) feel they should be exempt.

This quote from a 'not made of money' college student is more than entertaining...

"I cant just put off what I want to do with my life, because of money," Paiva said.

Really? Ever spend some time in the real world? Well, welcome to it buddy.

And then you find out (in the article) that he has received scholarships and grants. Which has reduced the loans by half to 15-thousand dollars. Which (oh no!) has already begun to acrue interest.

Again. Really? Welcome to the real world buddy.

And the kicker...

According to the Federal Reserve, Americans owe 870 billion dollars in student loan debt... That's more than credit card and auto loan debt.

So if college is so great in securing America's future, why does so very much of our national debt come from our nations past AND future generations' educations? I'd say that's referred to as... 'living beyond ones means'.

Spoiler

Isn't he cute?!

Someone should convey to these students (the ones not becoming politicians) just how screwed they (we) really are.

And how about this tidbit...

"You can make more money on average if you go to college, but it's not true for everybody," says Harvard economist Richard Freeman, noting the growing risk of a debt bubble with total U.S. student loan debt surpassing $1 trillion. "If you're not sure what you're going to be doing, it probably bodes well to take some job, if you can get one, and get a sense first of what you want from college."

I guess this means it's NOT my imagination.
