If interest is collected on Federal Student Loans, then theory suggests that there should be no "cost" to extending lower interest rates.

Treasury makes millions and millions of dollars in penalty fees on student koan defaulters.

And, you only get to consolidate your loans ONCE in their lifetime,
regardless of what the going interest rate may be now..

Lucky you

Mechanical engineer. BUt I work with a lot of machinists, and have worked with a lot more. They have to know a good bit of basic engineering, metalurgy, trig, geometry and algebra. And have a good understanding of computer operations to utilize a CAM program to generate the g-code that actually operates the machine. Plus of course understand cutter styles and materials, loads, feed rates and be able to design j-i-g-s (whoda thunk that would be **** as a bad word?) and fixtures required to machine the parts.

Funny that this happens to come up today...I was listening to the radio this morning and they were interviewing someone with a degree in turf management from WSU. Yes...turf management, and I believe it was a bachlors. Given the employement market, I wonder if you need that degree to operate a lawn mower these days? You can't make this stuff up.

Have you failed to see what The One is saying at colleges these days about the way the GOP is fighting this thing? Of course, you don't see that he is trying to "buy" college age votes for the Democrats which may well result in then voting that way for life. The more people become dependent on the government the easier he can redistribute wealth in the future.

Hang in there because there are many more like you who don't see words like I pointed out for the same reason you miss them.
Yep the great ONE see's his poll numbers going in the tank with the yute vote so hits the road yelling about how he's gonna make it all ok for em. I'm sure a bailout will be in order for em if need be. Just like when the polling showed women voters were down 10% and they ginned up the repub war on women nonsense. What is scary is these idiot swooner buy the whole thing hook line and sinker. Democrats are right their supporters really are dumb.

Did you see how the dems are going to pay for it??

"Senate Democratic aides said their bill would pay for itself with around $6 billion in extra Medicare taxes that would be collected over the next decade from the private companies."

More money from a ten year plan that isn't there yet. Basically raiding medicare to buy votes.

Ah the dependable GOP. The Boehner idea for extending the lower rate is to offset it by cutting from the ACA. Going nowhere, what a putz that guy is.

Why would they only extend it for 5 years?

It's only patriotic to pay for it ten years down the road it appears as that is what every bill they throw out seems tied to. Beyond pathetic is what it's become. Even the swooners are having a hard time defending this spending anymore. Well not really a hard time as they will defend Obama if he were to kill their own mothers but they look more foolish by the day.
