What do you mean by "avoiding conflicts"? What conflict have you seen arise in CT, DC, IA, MA, NH, NY, VT, and the Coquille and Suquamish Tribes due to gay people being allowed to contract civil marriages? What's with all this talk of "consideration" for people married under a "traditional definition" of marriage? I thought people were civilly married under a civil, secular law.
This is a debate stricly about whether gay couples should be discriminated against under the law. Period. How does restoring gay people's equal rights under the law "conflict" with anything or attack some sort of "tradition" or "definition"?
Funny you should mention IA because three of the SC Justices who forced this down the throats of Iowans were sent packing.

What right previously existed under the law and how was it lost such that it now needs to be restored?
And that's why the founders of this country were smart enough to realize that judges should be appointed and not elected; unfortunately some states were not so cleaver. The judiciary should not be a political branch of government.

Are you denying that hateful readings of the Bible by Christians are a major reason for the bulling of gay teenagers? If Christians would keep their hate speech and beliefs to themselves rather than evangelizing them through a perversion of Christ's words, then there wouldn't be a problem.

And wouldn't it have been great if the would-be journalists who left the auditorium had stayed and written that story. But since they left because of critique of the Bible by a Catholic, they forfeited their ability to respond to what he said because they weren't in the room when he said it.

The question is why does it make you, I presume a Christian and therefore part of the dominant religion in this country, feel entitled to shove your beliefs down other people's throats? This isn't a theocracy, as much as you'd like it to be.
I wouldn't like it to be a theocracy, if it were we would all be extremely bored. I am not trying to shove anything down anyones throats, you're mistaking me for a bible thumper (they're, mostly, crazy). If you don't like that Christianity is the dominant religion, MOVE! Go somewhere where everyone is just like you.

Again you obviously know nothing about Christianity. You are taking examples out of the Old Testament, if you knew anything about Christianity you would know that Jesus came to rewrite the Old Testament, and he did.
