I put gas in my car as well. I know I am contributing to the pockets of big oil. The problem is that oil and gas are necessities. Do you really think they are going to quit selling oil and gas if they have to pay a few billion more in taxes? Of course not, but why pay a few billion more in taxes if you can bribe representatives with a few million. Our govt. has sold out to big oil.
Not exactly, it goes deeper than that. Most of our elected representatives, Obama included, will prostitute their positions of power to those who can keep the money flowing to their districts and to their campaigns. Congress is just a rung on the ladder and the aspirations of most of the men and women who occupy the offices on Capitol Hill is to gain more money, and more power. Often this means later becoming lobbiests for same corporations at a much higher pay scale.
If one were to look beyond Big Oil it would see Big Banks who own tremendous amounts of stock in these global energy corporations.

What does Big Oil get in return for its $200 million investment in Romney? It gets to keep its billions in special tax breaks every year. So middle-class families pay twice — high gas prices when they fill up the tank and $4 billion in taxpayer-funded subsidies for an industry where the top five companies combined made $137 billion in profits last year.
At the same time, Big Oil gets one of its own dictating Romney’s energy policy. Harold Hamm, Romney’s top energy adviser, is a billionaire oil executive who says clean energy is a “magical fantasy” and wants high gas prices. He admitted as much when he declared in 2009 that cheap oil would be a “disaster.”
You can look at any sector on openscrets.com you want and there is two heavy hitters with very wide margins, both overwhelmingly support the Democrats. Unions and lawyers and the money they throw around makes oil and gas look like chicken feed.
Exxon gave the most money in 2008 to.........Obama. #2 was Hillary.
#3 was McCain.
The idea that major corporations are going to just climb into bed with one party and not get their hooks in everyone is laughably absurd propaganda.

No because they will just raise the cost of the fuel to maintain their profit margin which I might add is already quite small, you'll just be putting more money into Uncle Sam's profit. It's really a simple concept to understand. When you ask for new taxes on business what you're really asking for is taxes on yourself.
