The GOP from 2000-2006 governed like a bunch of democrats. They went on a spending binge, ran up debt, and enacted a new entitlement. That's why they lost the house in 2006 and by 2008 lost the senate and WH too.

That is why it was such a big deal when Scott Brown(R) was elected later elected from Mass.

Republicans never had a 60-40 majority during the time period in question so no, they could not push anything they wanted through.
The GOP were pumping out right wing bill after right wing bill like a machine. You have to keep in mind the filibuster abuse is a new phenomenon started recently by the GOP/tea party acting like children.

No, the GOP governed like a bunch of ultra-right wing nutcases, spending like lunatics on handouts to their big business cronies and the rich, plus they lied to the american people about Iraq, that's why they got their rears handed to them in 06' and 08'

Both the 108th and 109th Congress were Republican-controlled in both houses.

R's controlled all three (house, sen, wh) 2000-2006. Dems won control of both houses in 2006, then the wh in 2008, so they had all three from 2008-2010.

In both cases when one party controlled all three, it was a disaster IMO, with Dems proving to be even worse than the R's had been, which was quite a feat.

That's extremely disingenuous. There's always at least 10-15 blue dog dems in the senate who'll go along with pretty much any conservative legislation.

Two items of purely right wing social legislation just from the 108th congress-

The partial birth abortion ban, passed 64-34 with 17 dems voting yea

and the Unborn Victims of Violence Act, which tacks on an extra crime for killing a pregnant woman, passed 61-38 with 12 dems voting yea.

The 107th congress switched majorities in the senate after Jim Jeffords left the Republican party and again after Paul Wellstone died and Jim Talent won a special election for Jean Carnahan's seat.

So if you've defined 'ultra right' as increasing spending, and presumably left favors increased spending too. What happens if there is a faction that cuts spending? Your rabbit hole logic has just rendered you speechless; you're out of labels.

You're right I forgot about 'Jumpin Jim.' Thank you for the correction. And perhaps it should be noted that with the Senate, you don't really have full control unless you have 60. R's never had that; in fact for the most part it was 51-49 when they did have the majority.
